This house is truly a mess! It needs an overhaul badly and the city needs to insist that the house be worked on sooner rather than later.
  • 61 Diamond St New Haven, CT, 06515, USA - Beaver Hills
This house is empty. The yard is a disgrace. The backyard, especially, is quite a mess and needs to be cleaned up, grass cut, etc.
  • 129 Osborn Ave New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Beaver Hills
This is a blight issue. The house is in disrepair, there is an abandoned car in the driveway and it's been this way for quite a while.
  • 44 Diamond St New Haven, CT, 06515, USA - Beaver Hills
This house has a backyard filled with party things: tables, red drink cups, etc. which need to be removed. Also, the front upstairs window sills need finishing--painting or staining or covering in some way.
  • 139 Blake St. New Haven, Connecticut - Beaver Hills
This old gas station was hit with graffiti on the Osborn Ave. front side last week. It needs to be removed.

New stickers on recycling bins are interesting. I note that Pizza Boxes are listed in what's IN, yet all I read about single stream recycling on line is that pizza boxes SHOULD NOT be recyclied as they are often greasy. Please clarify.
Also, I'm wondering what SPIRAL WOUND CONTAINERS are. Please clarify.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE CARTONS: does this mean that juice boxes and soup boxes and others which are lined are recyclable, yet ICE CREAM containers are not ? My ice cream comes in plastic containers with lids that according to the new guidelines CAN be recycled!
PLASTIC BOTTLES WITH CAPS attached are recyclable, but the loose bottle caps are NOT.

I find this new set of guidelines incomplete and confusing. Also, a sticker on the bins is TOO LATE to notice: I separate my items INSIDE my house, not at the recycle bin. I bet others do the same thing.
This whole policy and communication effort needs to be reviewed, in my opinion.

Before school begins again, it would be helpful if a traffic plan were implemented at this school. Buses pick up and discharge students in front of the school while cars are parked across the street in a no parking area, where signs are gone, trash is evident, and the whole area is a mess. I’ve been reporting this issue for years yet nothing is resolved. It’s a disgrace to Beaver Hills.

This house has been reported by several people over the last year or more. There are many cars in its backyard, abandoned or not I do not know. The outside of the house is still a mess.
  • 20 Diamond St. New Haven, Connecticut - Beaver Hills
The work on this house stopped about a month ago and it has been left in disreputable condition. The neighbors were pleased when work first commenced but it needs to be remedied non.

I walked around Beecher School today and was appalled at the grounds conditions. A large tree was blown over in one section of the yard but the limbs and branches have not been removed. The garbage all around the school is gross; some of the recycling and garbage bins on the Onyx St. side are overflowing. I would think the school custodians would be on top of this and get the children's yard cleaned up. I was pleased to note that the broken playground equipment from my last visit there had been repaired.

18 wheelers are sporadically parked on Jewel St., lining the cemeteries. I understand the $20 parking violation ticket they sometimes receive is not a disincentive to stop parking there, in a residential area. Perhaps it's time for the city alders to think about raising the parking fine to actually make a difference. This is not the only place in Beaver Hills where 18 wheelers park--another spot is the intersection of Blake and Valley in the old 500 Blake St. parking lot.

At 3:15 today, I turned from Whalley up Jewel St. When I approached Beecher School, buses were waiting outside the school and five cars were parked on the opposite side of the street, 3 of them facing the wrong way. This is a no parking zone all together. Since the new curbstones were put in last summer, cars are now parked right in the street instead of off to the side of the road. It is difficult to travel through the line of buses and the illegally parked cars in front of the school. One partial solution would be to have the buses discharge and pick up children in the back of. the school where there is plenty of room to do so. That wouldn't solve the car parking problem, but perhaps parking tickets would. This has been reported for several years yet the city doesn't act on it.

There are piles of trash in the backyard of this home, as well as a party tent which has collapsed at the back door, This home owned by a former city employee has issues which need to be addressed sooner rather than later.
