Bike Rack Request ArchivedMile 106.1 State Rte 2 Alt E Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West CambridgeThere are four racks that I assume were installed to replace the four racks that were removed from the sidewalk near the railing of Winthrop Park during the period when the roadway was blocked off by construction at 57 JFK Street. I can only guess that the work crew was mistaken when they located them on the sidewalk in front of our building.
This is a highly inappropriate location for these racks. I would like to have them removed at the earliest convenience. If that is not possible in the next couple of days I can remove them myself.
I also would like to point out that there is no demand for any bike racks in n this area. There are several dozen racks on Eliot Street only yards away that are rarely if ever used, and several dozen more at Charles Square and across the street from the Kennedy school that are also available and routinely not in use.
It's also not uncommon for people looking for bike parking to use the park fence, street posts or other structures to lock up bikes when there is not enough rack parking, but I have not seen anyone make use of these structures in the past several years, which is a good indicator that all bike parking demand has been met. I would ask that the racks be removed and that no racks be situated on Winthrop Street at this time.
Please let me know what is the best way for me to get these racks removed as soon as possible. -

Bike Lane Obstruction Archived38 Quincy St Cambridge, MA 02138, USA - Mid-Cambridge
uber driver waiting for a pick up using bike lane as his waiting spot. he was adamant that he was doing nothing wrong
we need the bollard (or something more durable) back to prevent cars from using the bike lane as a parking spot and the city needs to enforce rules about parking and waiting on ride share drivers

Pavement Marking Issue Archived91 Brattle Street Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge
On the rainy evening of Jan 3rd, I was walking along Brattle St heading west and heard a loud crash as a car turning right from Mason St onto Brattle St apparently drove over the relatively new low profile concrete bike lane barriers. The car seemed to suffer some serious damage as parts fell off of the car from its underbody and rear.
This is a very dangerous, low-visibility situation at night for drivers and bicyclists, contrary to the intended purpose of the barriers to protect bicyclists. I recommend the City TPT look into this issue as soon as possible and consider painting high reflective paint on the barriers, remove the barriers (perhaps closest to the intersection), and/or determine better signage for drivers who, at that particular intersection, may be looking east for oncoming pedestrians and bicyclists and then advancing the turn before noticing and hitting the barrier.
As a driver and a bicyclist, I have not seen barriers like these elsewhere in the City. It does not seem like they add value, especially if drivers cannot see them and subsequently drive into the bike lane. If they are intended to preempt share rides from dropping off, this is the least likely location for such drop-offs given the low density, prevalence of owner-and institutionally-occupied housing and proximity to the T.
My photo of that particular spot did not come through, but I attach a photo further along on Brattle St which shows how difficult it is to see and perceive the barriers in the dark and wet conditions, despite streetlights.

Sidewalk Defect AcknowledgedGarden St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - Neighborhood 9The “no bike” symbols on the sidewalk are wearing off, so pedestrians and people waiting at the bike stop often have to dodge bikes riding through a walking-only zone. Can you please freshen the paint in both spots (each sidewalk intersection with the road)?

Cambridge St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - Mid-CambridgeWould it be possible to paint the bike lane in the Cambridge Street underpass tunnel green (similar to other bike lanes)? My son is a new 9th grader at CRLS and rides his bike through the tunnel every day. If the bike lane was more clearly marked in green, it would feel safer for both cars and bikes. Thank you for considering!

Other ArchivedCambridge 02138 United States - Neighborhood 9People are setting up campsites in the area and using the Portland loo at night. Is there any way to leave the loo open at night, and allow the local homeless people to use it (so they don’t pee in the cemetery or on peoples’ properties) but to disallow the drug addicts who are illegally camping from using it? They behave in threatening and antisocial ways

Our president has already declared Russia to be war criminals, do we have to tolerate Cambridge residents flying such hate symbols?
