  • Sidewalk - Damage Acknowledged
6300 Moraga Ave Oakland, California, 94611 - Montclair

On Mountain Blvd next to the park, the sidewalk gets so narrow that you can't even pass someone going the other direction without one of you having to step off of the sidewalk. Then at the moment where the sidewalk is narrowest, there is a pay for parking kiosk that narrows it even further, making me really feel like a second class citizen as a pedestrian.

And because I walk by that spot 4-5 times per week, I've seen a lot of uncomfortable interactions where someone has to flatten themselves against the wall to let a stroller pass, or someone has to walk around the parked cars on the curb just to pass another pedestrian.

And the thing is, this isn't even necessary! The width of the road plus sidewalk is the same ~59 feet where the sidewalks are narrowest and where they're widest ~500 feet down the road in front of Rite Aid. Both sections of road (by the park and by Rite Aid) have parking on both sides of the street and one travel lane in each direction, but the width of just the road goes from ~35 feet to ~50 feet. Meaning the total width of the sidewalk on both sides of the street goes from ~24 feet to ~9 feet.

Also it seems like it may be narrower than the 3ft required by the ADA where the parking kiosk exists, though I haven't measured it.

  • 1949 Mountain Blvd Oakland, California, 94611 - Montclair

The park is a civic asset that we fund as a community and I strongly believe that the primary use should be for inclusive play. At their core, reservations are meant to exclude others, and should not be the primary use of the pickleball courts. That's why I'm asking you to update the policy to make one of the four courts reservable while making the other three available for public play.

Since 3 of the 4 courts are reservable, and are almost always reserved in the after work period when I play pickup, I feel like Montclair Park has lost some of its magic. I can't reliably go to the park and play spontaneously, and often when I do I wait up to an hour with 8 other people for a brief turn on the court.

When people play with reservations, myself included, they tend to just play with people they already knew instead of playing as a part of the greater community. The reservation system has disrupted that spontaneous and community-building vibe that makes pickleball so special. At their best parks bring people together, and the Pickleball Courts at Montclair Park have really done that for me.

So, I've got a request: can we make one of the four courts reservable and keep the other three for community play? Let's keep Montclair Park's pickleball courts uniquely Oakland – a place where inclusion and community shine.

  • 5775 Snake Rd Oakland, California, 94611 - Montclair
This very large pothole is on a steep downhill into a blind curve. A potentially fatal accident could happen here if someone swerved into oncoming traffic — that they cannot see.
  • Homeless Encampment Acknowledged
6300 Moraga Ave Oakland, California, 94611 - Montclair
There are six tents, homeless encampment, at Montclair Park. You can see it from Moraga Ave.
  • 2409 Mountain Blvd Oakland, California, 94611 - Piedmont Pines
Someone grafittied the Montclair mural. Please remove the graffiti.
  • Mountain Blvd & Thornhill Dr Oakland, California, 94611 - Merriwood
Navigational street signs needed at Thornhill Dr. & Mountain Blvd. Drivers need to know where they are to keep traffic fluid and decrease confusion. Re: Thornhill Community Corridor Street Safety Project
  • Homeless Encampment Acknowledged
    Ca-13 S Oakland CA 94611, United States - Montclair
At least two white males living in the woods behind a fenced area on the east side of Ascot.
  • 5608 Colton Blvd Oakland, California, 94611 - Montclair
Multiple large potholes at the stop sign coming down Colton. Have been made much worse by the rains on 3/9. Literally large chunks of asphalt had to be removed from the road by a citizen.
  • 2371-2399 Mountain Blvd Oakland, CA, 94611, USA - Shepherd Canyon
This is located at the Park Blvd exit off of higway13 on mountain blvd. A white male homeless man is living behind this fence in the woods. It is concerning as students walk by this every day to Joaquin Miller Elementary and Montera middle school. I think he is mentally ill and seems harmless, but he should be sheltered and not in a wooded area near a school.
  • 2064 Antioch Ct Oakland, CA, 94611, USA - Montclair Business
The "No Left Turn" sign at this location, the only installed traffic-control device displaying the turn restriction for traffic using Antioch Ct to reach Mountain Blvd, is being obscured by a canopy erected in front of it by Peet's Coffee, in an adjacent storefront. Drivers using Antioch Ct cannot see this sign. (In my opinion, frankly, even without the canopy the sign is poorly placed, being too far away from the intersection's limit line. At the limit line, drivers cannot see any indication that a left turn is prohibited. Again in my opinion, either or both pavement striping or no-left-turn signage on the far side of Mountain Blvd will need to be installed to have any effect on driver behavior.)
  • Moraga Ave Oakland, CA, 94611, USA - Merriwood
At offramp from 13-S onto Moraga Ave (towards Thornhill) (basically right where offramp hits the street). Pothole is VERY hard to see at night. Caused flat tire (tire popped and has to be replaced)
  • Mountain Blvd Oakland, CA, 94611, USA - Shepherd Canyon
This has not been weed whacked in over 1.5 years. Looks like crap as you enter Montclair. (Next to Montclair sign)
    City used to maintain this.
