Pedestrian Safety Request AcknowledgedSip Ave & Summit Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
I am writing to express my grave concern about pedestrian safety on Summit Avenue, specifically at two key intersections: Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue, and Summit Avenue and High Street.
These areas are already very high density and are experiencing rapid population growth, with many residents relying on public transportation and navigating the streets on foot. However, the current traffic conditions pose a significant danger to pedestrians.
Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue
I have been nearly hit twice in the past six months while using the crosswalk, despite obeying all pedestrian signals. The primary issue is that vehicles often make rapid right turns at the same time the "Walk" signal is fully lit. This creates a false sense of security for pedestrians and a highly hazardous situation.
To address this, I propose one or more of the following changes:
- Reconfigure the traffic signals to ensure pedestrian safety by creating a clear, separate phase for pedestrian crossings.
- Prohibit turns on red lights at this intersection.
- Install warning lights for pedestrian crossings.
- Reduce the speed limit on both Summit Avenue and Sip Avenue in this area.
Summit Avenue and High Street
This intersection lacks any traffic signal or stop sign, yet cars frequently travel rapidly down Summit Avenue without stopping. This creates a substantial hazard for pedestrians attempting to cross.
To mitigate this danger, I suggest the installation of a stop sign, or a traffic light along with a pedestrian signal, at the intersection of Summit Avenue and High Street.
I believe these measures are essential to prevent a serious accident. Implementing these changes would dramatically improve safety for residents and visitors in this rapidly developing neighborhood.
Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

Sidewalk Obstruction Archived307 Barrow St Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - Downtown
Dear Jersey City Authorities,
I am the owner of Kimchi Guys located at 172 Newark Ave. In front of our restaurant, there is a bench installed near a tree about 3.5 meters from our entrance, where homeless individuals frequently gather.
Every morning around 10:30 AM when I arrive at work, I find these individuals already there drinking alcohol, sleeping on the bench, urinating, and leaving leftover food and trash on the ground. Since opening the business six months ago, we initially tried to accommodate their needs by providing utensils and straws. However, the situation has worsened to the point where we no longer feel safe or comfortable offering help.
These individuals are often intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, causing fear among our staff and customers. When we deny requests such as restroom use, we fear potential retaliation. Despite police visits to encourage restraint, they often ignore these warnings. We want to keep our glass doors open during the summer for ventilation, but the strong odor of urine makes it impossible.
On one occasion, a homeless man entered our premises and, after being denied restroom access, urinated inside the restaurant before leaving. Additionally, some have made threatening gestures, causing further discomfort.
We kindly request that the bench be removed to prevent these issues from continuing. Operating a new business in an expensive rental location is already challenging, and the current environment is severely impacting our operations and well-being.
We appreciate your prompt attention and support in resolving this matter.
Thank you very much.

Construction Archived808 Pavonia Ave Jersey City, NJ, 07306, USA - Journal Square
A request for urgent action due to possible structural damage to an old residential building.
Pile driving from 808 Pavonia Ave KRE Development is causing large NEW cracks to appear in our 100-year old apartment building.
Despite affirmations not to pile drive close to our property, this developer has been pile driving at or extremely close to our property line for the past two weeks. Now, we are noticing large new cracks and I’m extremely concerned.
In the past 2 days, multiple residents (including myself) have noticed large, new cracks appearing inside our apartments, in rooms closest to the construction, as well as on stairways in the main area. These cracks were not present before this pile driving started, and some are substantial.
One of the cracks is in my toddler’s nursery, running across the window wall.
We are requesting that a city inspector examine the damage immediately and that pile driving be halted until the building is inspected and it is deemed safe to continue.
I have photos and videos documenting the cracks and damage, taken from multiple units, and I can provide them (as well as contact info to my neighbors who have consented to being reached out to). The cracks are huge and at least one of them got worse TODAY.
Our condo president has contacted the developer directly, but I strongly believe city intervention is necessary to ensure resident safety and compliance.
Please, advise.
The pile driving has been distressing but if the damage is “just” cosmetic, it must be confirmed by a city inspector, not an engineer sent by the developer. I’d be happy to have that confirmed (and for the developer to pay to fix it), but if there’s any chance of the damage being structural, work must stop and the damage must be fixed immediately.

Pedestrian Safety Request ArchivedPavonia Ave & John F Kennedy Blvd Jersey City, New Jersey, 07306 - Journal SquareEnforcement is needed of dangerous bike riders without lights after dark. Monday 9/8/25 I from HCC on Sip Ave. to my home on Dey St., about 9:30 pm, a distance of 8 - 9 blocks. In that time I was endangered by FIVE bike riders, wearing all dark clothing, with NO LIGHT on their bikes while also breaking traffic laws. 1 -- dark bike on Pavonia, ran fed light at JFK corner while I was crossing the street. 2 -- JFK southbound , dark bike no lights directly across the street from PATH, ran the light at Pavonia while I and others were in the crosswalk. 3 -- bike riders on sidewalk, wearing dark clothing, no lights, whizzed past me going south. 4 -- again dark bike on sidewalk, coming around the corner from Newark Ave. onto JFK south, no lights, whizzed past no lights. 5 -- Newark Ave. first block from JFK, going east, dark bike, no lights, whizzing past. Why are bikes allowed in the road with no lighting after dark? We need ENFORCEMENT.

Construction on Street/Sidewalk AcknowledgedBarrow St & Christopher Columbus Dr Jersey City, NJ, 07302, USA - DowntownThe PEDESTRIAN walkway is closed to PEDESTRIANS with no notice throughout the day. There is construction occurring on both sides of the street and extending out onto the sidewalks, which has created an unsafe location for pedestrians and bikers to cross the street, forcing us to wait IN THE STREET to cross the street. Not to mention the blindspots that have been created due to the construction. The number of near-accidents with bicyclists and pedestrians is insane. Pedestrians are forced to cross the street at unsafe locations. Who in their right mind approved this?
