  • 5 Chauncy Street Cambridge, Massachusetts, 02138 - Neighborhood 9
This is the end result of the work at 5 Chauncy. Did they really have a permit for this seven car parking lot?
  • 1381 Cambridge Street Cambridge, Massachusetts, 02139 - Wellington-Harrington
There needs to be a category to complain about intersections where bicycle riders consistently ignore the red lights, putting themselves and car drivers at risk with their own self-assurance that their judgment is better than obeying traffic laws

Just because it’s dcr / state police jurisdiction and not Cambridge police jurisdiction, doesn’t completely and totally release the city from any responsibility over this little wooded area, which is in Cambridge after all. The folks living in this encampment are benefiting from it being an ignored area. There’s somewhat of a permanent structure there again. Folks are defecating on the paths, building fires, using drugs, doing crimes associated with the drugs such as prostitution, etc. Last year, a woman perished when her camp caught on fire —- I had been trying to get Dcr and the troopers to pay attention to her before that happened but they just shrug their shoulders and roll their eyes. I keep trying to explain to MEMA and the troopers the exact location but they don’t get it. I will keep posting about it here so that you can’t act like you’re not aware of it. I will keep calling all the numbers to complain about it until someone takes responsibility, acting like it’s not your problem is only going to make me call more. If they aren’t able to keep themselves warm without building an illegal fire, then they’re at risk. If they build a fire, everyone else is at risk. There’s no authority, that has the authority, to just allow it.
  • 955 Massachusetts Ave Cambridge, Massachusetts, 02139 - Mid-Cambridge

Extremely bright indoor flood/security lights on the top floor of 955 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139 are left on every night. Although the fixtures are indoors, they shine directly out of the windows and create intense nighttime glare and light trespass into all residential units in all directions.

    Details:

Lights are unshielded indoor flood/security fixtures.

Located inside the top floor of 955 Massachusetts Ave.

    On continuously 24/7.

No construction activity at night; these appear to be permanent/operational lights.

The glare directly enters my apartment at 10 Dana St, preventing normal nighttime darkness.

This appears inconsistent with the intent of Cambridge’s lighting standards limiting glare and light trespass. Requesting that ISD inspect the site and require shielding, re-aiming, or mitigation.

  • 103 Walden St Cambridge, MA, 02140, USA - Neighborhood 9

"No bicycles" sign posted in front of 103 Walden (guessing by the owner). Since bikes are explicitly allowed here (on both road and sidewalk), I hope this can be taken down.

If SeeClickFix is not the right place to post this, I'd appreciate a pointer to the correct place.

These nails were hammered through the fence from 5 Chauncy St into my property. I walked by and one caught on my shirt, ripping it last night I spoke with several workers on multiple occasions to no avail. Are these people licensed to do construction work?
  • Aberdeen Ave & Mount Auburn St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge
Three times in one week I witnessed someone driving down Aberdeen Ave on the wrong side of the road, heading from Mt Auburn St toward Huron Ave. I'm wondering if there needs to be better signage or better configuration of that intersection. It's very frightening to have someone driving head-on toward you on the wrong side of the road, and obviously dangerous. Thanks in advance for looking into this.
  • Mile 105.2 Rte 2 W Cambridge, Massachusetts, 02138 - Agassiz-Harvard

Not sure how to categorize this but can the city do some outreach about safe biking in the winter months? In a 1/2 mile walk along Linnaean, Mass Ave., Garfield, Oxfor, and various side streetsd. this evening (pitch black and rain just ending) I saw at least 6 bikes with either no light at all or a very dim back light or reflector but no front light Several were biking the wrong way down one-way streets, into oncoming traff,ic while nearly invisible Very scary to see cars suddenly swerving or stopping abruptly to avoihe bikers who came out of seemingly nowhere, especially when they were "salmoning" so chadhave no expectation of traffic coming towards them! And as a pedestrian it's also frightening, especially since many don't seem to obey traffic laws, so they bike across cross streets when the light is red, emerge suddenly in the wrong direction from one-way streets, etc.

I'm wondering how the city can help improve safety and comfort for everyone by educating/helping bikers get properly equipped/encouraging them to follow basic traffic laws for their own and everyone else's sa. ty! As the city encourages more people to start biking regularly, we can't assume that they kthat bikes are expected to follow traffic laws, or to have knowledgeabout best practices todo to be safe.

  • Mile 107.3 State Rte 2 E Cambridge, MA, 02139, USA - The Port
As a senior citizen I am concerned about the number of people riding bikes, e-bikes, motorized scooters, mopeds and even motorcycles on the sidewalk in Central Square. There are no signs posted that this is illegal and there is no enforcement being done. This is dangerous, especially for seniors and folks with disabilities as we are not as quick to get out of the way.

  • Homer Ave & Mount Auburn St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - West Cambridge

All the cars turn on red from mt Auburn onto Homer. The sign is small and high up.

This is really annoying when pedestrians have a walk light to cross mt Auburn and the cars keep turning onto Homer
