Notified About

  • 1-173 Valley St New Haven, CT 06515, USA - West Rock
Graffiti on lower and upper face of West Rock.
  • 107 Springside Ave New Haven, CT 06515 - West Rock
This is easily the worst set of potholes in the New Haven. Run off from the hill crosses over the street, and constantly eats away the street. The problem is magnified in the winter time, when the run off freeze and creates an ice pot hole combo. The city put temporary patches to the holes, but they are eroded away in a single week! The city also put up marker cones as a warning, but its still not enough. There needs to be a permanent fix, like maybe an underground pipe to funnel the run off water under the road. You can easily see the carnage that these pot holes create. The guardrails are bent from constant crashes. The nearby trees are also scarred from being hit by cars that lost control from the holes. The damage from the run off water is so bad and so obvious that I nicknamed the area "Springside River". Its literally a river of water embedded into the street, that's how terrible it is.
  • Wintergreen Ave New Haven, CT 06514 - West Rock
I visited WR Park the other day and was saddened to see it so neglected. Graffiti on the walls and rocks, stone walls crumbling, poor roads and just a general sense of neglect. I'm curious to know if others also see this? It is a wonderful park and has the best view of New Haven. It is also an historical landmark. It deserves better attention from the State and from us neighbors.
  • 358 Springside Ave New Haven Connecticut - West Rock
I am a student at Common Ground High school and I am worried about Illegal dumping along Wintergreen Brook. There have been people passing in their car and dumping trash from their window there are also people who stop and throw away couches and big pieces of house items or toys. I am working with West River Stewards to clean up as much trash as possible we also want to make a path and Wintergreen Brook will become an oasis but all the trash is not creating a nice image of Wintergreen Brook or the street that Common Ground High School is located on we are an environmental school and we would like to get help to clean up the trash and maybe put a no dumping sign or cameras.
  • 465-471 Blake St New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Westville
Even with the snazzy pedestrian walk crossing light, every car turns right on the red through the pedestrian crossing sign. Today, even as I was in the cross walk a car turned 6 feet in front of me and I had to hold up my hand to keep the other car from running me down. It's ridiculous. There is a lot of crossing at this corner and it's just a matter of time. Maybe add a 'yield to pedestrian' sign.
  • Code enforcement needs to enforce!

The complex is filled with rundown and boarded up apartments. Force these slumlords to fix them up or sell the complex.

  • 100 Valley Street New Haven, Connecticut - Westville
The brush really needs to be cut back- visibility is limited and have to drive almost on the yellow to get around curve- its a quick mow job with the right equipment - anyone got a weed wacker??
  • 495 Blake St New Haven, CT, 06515, USA - Westville

This photo was not taken today and does not show the usual morning or late afternoon heavy vehicular traffic, but it does illustrate the intersection at Blake and Valley. On the right, is the Elm City Montessori School with a current preschool through elementary student population of approximately 270 kids. On the left is a surface parking lot that is often used as a cut-through by irate motorists who are frustrated by the frequent traffic back ups that occur here in the morning. Many of the students, including mine, walk to ECMS and cross this dangerous intersection at least twice a day. I have personally been hit three times over the past two years by vehicles piloted by drivers who either run the red light with the cross walk sign illuminated at this intersection or speed through the surface lot in their attempt to short cut the right turn from Valley to Blake. Thankfully, the incidents so far have been minor with no injuries beyond bruises and strained vocal cords. The recent addition of an illuminated "No Turn on Red" sign for those turning right from Blake to Valley has made a noticeable improvement. However, those coming from the opposite direction attempting to turn left from Blake to Valley, do not have an arrow, and often ignore the red light which endangers any pedestrians in the crosswalk. Similarly, those who use the surface lot as an auxiliary right turn lane, often do not watch for pedestrians on the sidewalk along Blake. My kids were almost hit this morning by someone speeding through the lot. I have witnessed near misses by other families crossing this intersection and have spoken to parents with similar concerns regarding the dangers here.

The convergence of significant vehicular and pedestrian traffic at this intersection, particularly in the mornings and late afternoons, warrants an immediate and comprehensive traffic engineering study by the City of New Haven. At a minimum, a left turn arrow for those vehicles turning left from Blake to Valley could be incorporated into the signalling system and would greatly reduce the danger to pedestrians at the crosswalk, as well as facilitate better and safer vehicular movement there. Removing the entry/exit and corresponding curb cut along Blake from the surface parking lot would regulate entry and exit to the lot from Valley Street and thus, eliminate the vehicular cut-through at that location. One could argue for a school crossing guard here, but I would contend that without the application of these two aforementioned basic changes to the intersection and parking lot, the underlying problems will continue to endanger those who use the crosswalks.

Apologies for the long-winded description, but these recommendations are reasonable and achievable. Immediate action needs to take place at the intersection of Blake Street and Valley road before we are faced with an avoidable tragedy.

  • 100 Valley Street New Haven, Connecticut - West Rock
The new speed indicators need to be adjusted- coming down the hill, the sign will flash the speed for cars going up the hill.
They also don't seem to be working coming from Blake Street.
  • Stone St New Haven, CT - West Rock
Tons of children come to play in the Blake St/Stone St park - This morning as I passed the park I could not believe how much trash is all over the park and street. The one garbage can is overflowing; bags of trash are hanging off of the fences and benches. People are also often seen cleaning out their cars onto the street, smoking (things other than cigarettes), and drinking alcohol openly. There are schools near by that use this park as well as daycares and the local families. The park needs more trash cans - maybe if they are placed by the benches they will catch the majority of the garbage. The cans do need to be emptied regularly.
  • 7 Victory Drive New Haven, Connecticut - Amity

This one cannot be enforced even though I see mothers with baby carriages, elderly, disabled and people with groceries/luggage have to go into the street to go around the blocked sidewalk.

Calls to Public Works, LCI and Alder are all "looking into it" since April.....must be friends of the Mayor.

Feel free to block the sidewalk, no one will do anything !!!

The parks department has not responded to the multiple requests to have this area cut back so that the illegal dumping in this area may be curtailed.

What do you have to do to get this done?? its been since August this has been requested.
