Notified About

  • Sachem And Winchester - Dixwell
With the canal-trail becoming more and more used, and the intersection here (Sachem at Canal, just past Winchester) being an important access-point to the trail, it is dangerous that this is a three-way intersection with STOP signs on only two out of the three directions of travel! It seems to me a no-brainer to make this a Stop sign for everyone.
  • 325 Mansfield St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Prospect Hill
I walk up and down Mansfield St. at least twice a day, crossing Division Street and Munson/Hillside in the marked crosswalks. Even when I have begun crossing and am well into the middle of the street, cars blast through the crosswalks at 30 to 40 mph within 1-2 feet of me. Never once has a car stopped for me to cross at either intersection. Even when I was on crutches, no one cared. It is illegal for cars not to stop for pedestrians. If the police observed these crosswalks for an afternoon in unmarked cars, they could issue hundreds of tickets -- and perhaps the behavior of New Haven's drivers would finally change.
  • 298 W Hazel St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Newhallville
I wonder how the Mayor and Police can justify constant gunfire coming from the Police Academy. I understand and am all for them refining thier skills, however they are between 2 schools, 1 being an elementry school and near close proximity to West Hazel, West Division, and Harding St. What is this saying to our kids, and the violence in this neighborhood?
  • Muson And Winchester New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Prospect Hill

Tomorrow night at 5:30 PM there is a public hearing at City Hall to grant preliminary approval of a petition to include this property (new lot L or the old Winchester factory) in the Science Park Corporation Planned Development District.

The reason for this petition is so that Higher One may keep and expand its 160 person work force here in New Haven by moving across the street from their current location at 25 Science Park to the planned facility at new lot L.

If you are in favor of this petition please speak-up here and also please show up tomorrow night to show your support.

Here's is a link to the traffic survey which I have made public through google docs: https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=1gdPWpGrFJqTisEJkft1eIaOL8QlYMbeHZZL2ewDxm7WWqRUadaj3tyWqLImA&hl=en&authkey=CJqx0LQL

  • Cars go speeding up Mansfield Street at very unsafe speeds because it is just a long street, no stop signs or anything. Children are frequently riding bikes around as well, just seems like a terrible combination. Maybe adding stop signs or maybe even just speed bumps (or just those "rumble strips") to certain areas would help.
  • 68 Mansfield Street New Haven, ct - Dixwell
Every week residents at Yale apartments at 68 Mansfield Street put their garbage out sloppily, not properly separating recycling, and just throwing bits of food and household trash on the ground. With last week's wind half of it ended up blown around the whole neighborhood. Yale needs to teach people who rent it's housing the rules for handling garbage.
  • 782 Orchard St New Haven, CT - Dixwell
ALL OVER the city Harp signs are on the curb strip and public property. This is PW job to remove and fine them. At the 782 Orchard and all along that strip and other strips there is a severe abuse of this. Those campaigns are suppose to be fined for every sign. Public Works needs to get on the ball and remove these signs now.
  • abused dog Archived
17 Compton Street New Haven, CT - Dixwell
A dog is being chained in the backyard of a illegal boarding house at 17 Compton Street and barks incessantly and is in distress. The owner abuses the dog, causing the dog to cry. The dog is sometimes brought into the house, but more often is chained in the backyard with no water and no food. Not only is this extremely hurtful to the dog, but it causes distress within the neighborhood. That dog must be taken away from the abusive owner.
  • Goffe Street New Haven, Connecticut - Dixwell

Along the entire 1.25 mile length of Goffe Street from Broadway Downtown to Osborn in Beaver Hills, only a dozen frequently used on-street parking spaces would need to removed in order to accommodate dedicate bike lanes along both sides of the street. The parking loss, however, would come to an area that has seen a large increase in off-street surface parking lots in recent years. Goffe Street, one of the oldest routes in New Haven dating back to the aboriginal habitation of the area, connects Downtown to Westville through the Dixwell and Beaver Hills neighborhoods. Dedicated bike lanes could help calm traffic, connect neighborhoods and schools, improve safety for all road users, encourage more active recreation in the area, and be included with targeted public and private investments in surrounding streetscapes - all with little to no impact on automotive facilities.

With enough interest, this issue could be further studied by the City and potentially come to fruition as funding becomes available from State, Federal, and local sources.

For more information on how dedicated bike lanes along Goffe Street might look, see here: https://newhavenurbanism.org/new-haven-planning/multimodal-transportation-planning/goffe-street/

  • 200 Orange Street New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Dixwell
I have seen the # of cars by parking all day in front of City Hall ( 200 Orange Street) by Goverment agencies increase to an unreasonable level this summer. ICE has 3-5 cars all day, every day, Treasurer has 3 cars all day and assorted other agencies vary from week to week. These are not hourly parkers. This is ALL DAY EVERY DAY. Don't these agencies have the underground parking below 157 Church St.?? It is appauling that taxpayers can't park near City Hall because of Goverment Agency Parking taking 10-15 of the 30 minute parking spots all day.
  • 58 Mansfield Street New Haven, Connecticut - Dixwell
Yale construction worker parks here every morning using visitor tag for months (just got the new one!). People commuting to work are not visitors. The owner of the tag should be fined $200 for misuse of the tag, and the car should be ticketed, according to the city ordinances.
  • 62 Shelton Ave New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Newhallville
Why arent there more cops walking this area? They walk in groups of 2 on State and Orange Streets!
