previous ticket https://seeclickfix.com/issues/17925669 has been closed. I do not consider the issue closed.
I believe the current situation is dangerous.
I believe the proposed short term solution is more dangerous.
Please refer to the previous ticket for further explanation.
I would like to know how to engage with the city to prevent or amend the short term solution.

This newly repaved roadway has just been painted. The new traffic lanes are EXTREMELY dangerous for motorists and pedestrians. Please fix immediately.

    1. difficult to drive: the previously unpainted motorpath had a constant radius arc (uphill and downhill) that was easy and natural to drive. The new painted lanes have a sharp kink (uphill and downhill) that is a: difficult to drive - (forcing a challenging decreasing radius arc followed by an unnatural hard braking to navigate the kink all while fighting challenging forces of momentum, gravity, yaw, and negative camber), and b: difficult to see (the downhill sightline falls away from the drivers right front fender, making the lines virtually impossible to see wile turning right. The uphill is only slightly better, and still hard to see). If you can't see it, and you have to fight it, very few drivers will stay in the new lanes (early observations bear this out)

    2. head on collisions: The new lanes make collisions highly likely. I witnessed 2 near head on collisions within 10 minutes. If the downhill driver follows the new lanes, they are driving deep into the middle of the paved area at the intersection. If the uphill driver doesn't respect the new lanes, and follows the previous arc, they follow a path to a direct head-on collision with the downhill car. Since the curve is blind for most of its arc, neither driver sees each other til its almost too late. At night (or raining), when the lines are even more difficult to see, this will be an even bigger problem.

    3. pedestrian DEATH Trap: Many people historically walk the safer outer edge of this curve. I do so almost every day. The new lanes leaves dangerously insufficient room for a pedestrian to walk the outer edge of the roadway. The uphill driver has no room to avoid pedestrians without crossing into the upcoming lane. The pedestrian cant step off the road due to the close thick wall of oleanders. Walking the inner curve would be EXTREMELY dangerous, as many downhill drivers hug the curve and clip the apex - all while the pedestrian is in a blind spot of the right front of the car, traveling around a blind curve. The newly painted lane doesn't help, as most drivers continue to cut the corner (that they cant see). The upslope is too steep and uneven for a pedestrian to walk along or even safely step off to avoid getting hit.

    Solutions:
1: IMMEDIATELY remove the newly painted lanes, and revert back to the former, safer non-painted roadway.
2: Immediately cut the oleanders back on the outside of the curve, allowing for an outer walking path (or at least safe place to step out of traffic).
3: complete the real sidewalk on the inner curve from Ridgewood around to the sidewalk further down on the west side of Elizabeth.

I believe the shifted lines north are creating more harm than good. I feel that the north side should be the protected pedestrian and bicyclist route. The painted safe haven is on the wrong side of the road. It does not lead to a sidewalk. It would do more good to protect the already used natural walking pathway on the north side of the roadway. The plan of placing delineators and reflectors is doubling down on an incorrect decision. It takes courage to correct a mistake. I'm hopeful the city is willing to backtrack on a poorly designed traffic modification design. Even though it is a noble goal of calming traffic, it should not place the traffic closer to vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists. I'm hopeful we as a neighborhood can influence a safe traffic pattern by communicating their thoughts to the city. I have walked and cycled that road many times, I do not like the traffic pushed towards me. I will like it even less if the city creates more aggressive barriers than just paint which will route traffic in an unyielding fashion towards pedestrian and cycling traffic on the north uphill side of the roadway. If you have thoughts about these changes please share them with the city before more changes are made that may be against your wishes. In my opinion these proposed changes will make a bad situation worse. The intersection was safer for pedestrians and cyclists before the changes were made.

    Thank You,

  • Bungalow Ave SAN RAFAEL, CA - San Rafael
The neighborhood has been trying to get this Street repaired since 1989! The Street is very narrow making it difficult for 2 cars to pass safely. There are large open Gutters with Driveway entrances making it dangerous when 2 cars try to pass. A car can hit a driveway entrance and severely damage there front suspension. This has happened often. It has only partial sidewalks causing pedestrians to walk on the Street. We have had nothing but excuses from the City. The IJ published an article Nov 23 2003 concerning this issue.(See attached). This issue has gone on far to long.

Resident at Vivalon is requesting that the pedestrian light going East to West should be longer. As is, the have to wait a long time for the pedestrian light to give them a green, and when it does, it isn't long enough. Please increase the length of time they get to cross.
  • 4619-4699 Redwood Hwy San Rafael, CA, 94903, USA - San Rafael

I manage an office of the Arc San Francisco at 4340 Redwood Hwy. This is a Day Program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We often walk from our office to the bus stops along the highway.

There is a crosswalk on at approx. 4460 Redwood Highway. On at least three occasions, cars have come close to hitting our participants.

I think the crosswalk can be moved to provide a safer crossing with more visibility. In addition, there should be better signage and perhaps a crosswalk flashing light available.

By walking to the bus stops, we go through the commuter parking lot towards Smith Ranch Road.

I suggest the cross walk be placed further up Redwood Highway by the "Ultimate Self Defense Studios". Again... with better signage and a flashing light system.

    Thank you!

  • Smith Ranch Rd & Yosemite Rd San Rafael, CA, 94903, USA - San Rafael
3 way intersection of Yosemite and Smith Ranch Rd is dangerous with many, many drivers going too fast. This makes it dangerous to exit Yosemite onto Smith ranch. Two stop signs, one going east, one going west would completely eliminate this danger. Please take this seriously as it will inevitably lead to an accident if this isn't remedied. Reference number 16409839. I have been requesting this since September 2023

The westbound lane in front of the high school, at the heavily used pedestrian crossing towards Trader Joe’s, is blocked down to one lane with a trench plate. The traffic back ups are already quite bad, and it’s only Saturday, Monday will be a traffic disaster if the two lanes are not open. The trench work looks very minor, it’s unclear why if this is an emergency there is no work occurring over the weekend. There is a trench plate in place, so it seems like the traffic lane should be safely open. Please consider expediting the trench repair and getting both lanes open to avoid significant disruption to the community on Monday thank you.
