VOTE if you want the city to plow the snow on BOTH sides of the street!
New Haven's policy of only ever plowing the odd side of residential streets is wacky.
Now that the odd side is more or less clear, we won't be able to park back on the even side for the next storm, because it will be blocked by frozen piles of snow left behind from people digging themselves out.
VOTE if you want the city to have a second day of plowing the EVEN side of the street, when everyone should move to the ODD side.

Recently, the City installed a bike share on Linden Street with a large adjacent advertising panel in front of East Rock Pharmacy on Orange Street. Several of us -- residents, property owners, and business owners--are concerned that the content of this ad panel is incompatible with the neighborhood and its placement unsafe due to its encroachment onto the sidewalk. While my focus is on the pharmacy ad panel at 763-767 Orange Street, I know that residents of other neighborhoods have concerns about ad panels in their areas, and I believe the conversation about the pharmacy ad panel may have relevance for ad panels installed in other neighborhoods around the City.

yet again, speeding tow trucks (in their effort to get another tow on street sweeping day) SPED, in reverse, the wrong way down a one way street. This truck was from York towing at 11:45AM today. Why are the cops not ticketing the tow drivers for reckless driving... seriously someone could have been hurt or something damaged.

This is the state of driving behavior and traffic enforcement in New Haven:
It is the Wild West! I was commuting in this morning heading south on Orange Street. At the busy Willow Street intersection, two cars ran the red light heading west on Willow Street. I then noticed that there were TWO NHPD cruisers stopped at the light on Orange Street heading north. Neither one of them pulled over either red light runner. (And neither officer appeared to be on another emergency call as they both drove away, lights off, with traffic when the light turned green.)
This summarizes where we've come to with traffic safety and traffic enforcement in New Haven.
This is not normal. We have accepted the normalization of this behavior: both the incredible number of drivers running red lights and stop signs or talking/texting on their phones while driving, AND the frequent lack of traffic enforcement by the NHPD.
This does not happen everywhere in the state. This does not happen everywhere in the country.
What can we do to change the cycle?
  • Willow Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
Willow Street between the end of Mitchell Drive and the entrance to 91 has been unpaved and unmarked for weeks. This causes major slow downs (very bad at rush hour), cars crossing into wrong lanes (no lanes marked), and potential car damage because of bumps/rough roads/potential accidents

227 Nicoll St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
A cop could complete their monthly ticket quota in 1 hour spent at this intersection alone. Despite the painted crosswalk, 99% of cars do not stop, making I‎t EXTREMELY dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists.
  • Foster And Cottage Streets New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
I saw a torn open Amazon box at the corner of Foster and Cottage streets this morning. The package was torn open in a similar fashion to packages that were stolen from front porch on Foster Street about two weeks ago (I found them in a construction dumpster). There is a thief stealing from porches in the neighborhood.

114 Foster Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
Crosswalk pedestrian signal needed at Foster and Eagle streets. There is a lot of stroller and dog traffic in this neighborhood, cars go too quickly down Foster, and with street parking on both sides of the street, it can be a challenge to see oncoming traffic. Something to slow or stop traffic to allow for safe street crossing is necessary. Thank you.
  • Nicoll Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
There is a live band that plays every night around the Nash Street area I think, how is this allowed in a residential area? It is extremely loud and disturbing.
  • 155 Foster Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
The owner of the Dinosaur Jr. car has once again violated the parking ban. Please move your car before the plow clears Foster Street (except for the area where you parked your car).

Hi ~ Batman is a fearful cat (feral ?) that has been around my neighborhood for months. He took up residence in my yard in October. I had him neutered and given a rabies shot on 12/21 and let him recover in my basement for a few days. I let him out on 12/24 (He was desperate and I wanted him to go back out ahead of the deep freeze so he would re-acclimate to my yard and the little house I put out for him, which he had been sleeping in.) I have not seen him since then. I know he has other feeders b/c he did not keep a regular schedule in my yard, though he had been hanging out more and more. I am just worried about him and wondering if anyone has seen him. This is a pic from Google of cat with marking and coloring similar to Batman for reference.
