DEEP DANGEROUS POTHOLE IN ROAD. Sun 6-14 a friend driving my car to go to Midway airport hit this totally UNAVOIDABLE POTHOLE...felt like it jarred my front teeth loose...what it did do is blow out my front drivers side tire...shortly afterward my car had a rubbing sound from tire area( meanwhile I am on the phone trying to contact 311 of this as a man told me to do) ..but then the power steering went COMPLETLY OUT!! My friend managed to get it to the first of departures ramp area...where the nightmare got worse. Police officer passing by, we tell him the problem that he has to leave to catch flight, he tells me I have to move it, it cant stay there calls for airport tow, there in 2mins to tow my car, me and the dog to a safe place then I have to call police back tell them where I will be for the report and call my own tow back 68 miles home! I was left at 5400 Kilpatrick in a turn around for the coach buses with no outlet and signs clearly posted NO PARKING ANYTIME! THIS POTHOLE happened at approx. 435 pm my FIRST call to 311 was at 44opm to report! Finally a police officer arrived ( I made two more calls cant get an ETA but it was hours) He asked what happened I told him about the pothole, heading south on s. cicero In area of Midway airport and he says, 5600 S.Cicero and knew of the pothole, as did the driver for tow at Midway Airport told me he has reported it several times and said Nothing has been done! ( I have his truck number and IL plate #) So the officer quickly asked for my Insurance info and ID went to squad, made report and handed it to me and drove away wishing me luck. I then waited until 8PM for the tow truck! None available, thankful he came to tow my car, and give me and friends dog ride home. He too said and I quote," I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE POTHOLE YOUR HIT IS AND THAT THEY JUST DONT CARE, SOMEONE FROM OUT OF AREA THAT DOESNT KNOW LIKE YOURSELF IS GOING TO HIT IT AND GET KILLED!"
Now I was told by phone to get the EXACT LOCATION EVEN IF THAT MEANT GOING BACK AND FINDING IT! I could not believe that, I explained there is multiple lanes and lots of traffic and did I mention I CANT DRIVE MY CAR?!? even if It was drivable this would be very hard for me to do...and very UNSAFE what is wrong with your dispatch advise???? I HAD ALREADY GIVEN HER THE BEST LOCATION I COULD BUT SHE SAID CALL BACK WHEN YOU CAN GIVE AN EXACT LOCATION BY BLOCK NUMBER!
NOW I FIND OUT LAST NIGHT WHEN I GET THE ACCIDENT REPORT OUT OF MY CAR TO CALL INTO MY INSURANCE...I AM LISTED AS THE DRIVER! WHAT A MESS! MEANWHILE I AM SURE THE CITY HAD NO IDEA OF THIS DEEP POTHOLE THAT HAS SCREWED UP MY CAR, EXPENSIVE TIRE, CRACKED RIM, NO POWER STEERING, WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE! My report is WRONG SO I DONT KNOW IF THAT CAN BE FIXED OR WHAT NEXT STEP IS!!!!! UNBELIVABLE MESS!
