Notified About

  • Canner St & Loomis Pl New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
Crosswalk urgently needed On Canner St &Loomis Place - Very very busy intersection which is near two schools and Celentano and Foote as well as the Divinity School. Please address asap.
  • 347-351 Canner St New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
We need a pedestrian crosswalk on Canner Street near Loomis Pl and Division Street. This block of Canner has heavy foot traffic - including many families with small children! - due to the presence of two grade schools (Foote and Celentano), two day-care centers (in the Whitehall and YDS apartments), three apartment complexes (Whitehall, Ivy Manor, and YDS), Yale Divinity School, and the YDS community garden. A crosswalk would make our life here safer and easier.
  • Signs Archived
438 Whitney Ave New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Prospect Hill
This Saturday I removed SEVEN advertising signs (all for a supposedly cheap TV, phone, and Internet service provider) from utility poles at 400 Whitney Avenue, 438 Whitney, 443 Whitney, 450 Whitney (Bethesda Lutheran Church), 611 Whitney, and two other locations on Whitney. The signs were all posted in violation of New Haven regulations. It would be helpful if Public Works or the Police Department would call the phone number on these signs, 860-869-0284, and tell the company that signs are not allowed to be posted on utility poles. Perhaps the advertiser will get the message. The signs are visual clutter.
  • Whitney Ave & Edwards St New Haven, Connecticut, 06511 - Bishop-Hine

Three times so far, while walking, I have almost been hit by a car driving up Edwards Street and then turning right on Whitney Avenue. In each case, the driver had a red light and I had a walk signal. However, the drivers do have the right to turn right on red.

When they do so, the more careful drivers look left to check for oncoming traffic. However, they do not look right. Why should they? But at that point walkers have seen the walk signal change to "walk" and are on the crosswalk on Whitney Avenue.

One slight improvement would be a "no right turn on red" sign for drivers coming from Edwards. Even so, I am afraid to cross there now. Once two of us were nearly hit, and the driver seemed enraged by our presence and bullied us with their car.

  • North Side Of Ogden Street ca. 125 Ogden? , New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
An unbuilt lot at this location is totally neglected, and has become overgrown with a thicket of volunteer trees and weeds, to the point that it is an eyesore and obstructs the sidewalk, so that passersby must step into the street to pass the lot. The owner may live out-of-town. Is there no recourse for the City when this happens? Can the owner be fined, and/or can a lien be put on the property?
  • 340 Whitney Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Bishop-Hine
This towing company drove over the yellow line into oncoming traffic on Whitney then went straight in a turn lane to beat the light and when I called to complain they insisted the police asked them to disobey the traffic laws. They are a city contracted tower who needs to lose their contract.
They also indicated they were very "tight" with the police towing operations supervisor so they were not concerned about my complaint. Please call in driving violations for these free for all, wanna be emergency vehicles that have no authority to break traffic laws.
  • 248 Ogden St New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
Please inspect sidewalks in front of /near 248 Ogden St and the property on this corner as well - Lots of damage looks like tree damage from existing as well as old trees.
  • 266 Canner St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Prospect Hill

    CRITICALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION

There is a tree limb which has been burned half way through by a power line that rubbed against it. The power company moved the line, but the limb remains and is going to fall on the sidewalk/Canner Street. This is a heavily trafficked pedestrians street where school children walk to several schools within a block or two of this location. PLEASE trim this limb before someone gets seriously injured. The black area in the photo is the large burned out hole in the limb.

  • Bad repaving Archived
438 Whitney Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Prospect Hill
Whitney Avenue from Willow Street to Cottage Street was dug up last fall for utility work. The construction crew then repaved the trench they had created, for nearly a two-block stretch of Whitney. The new asphalt is very uneven, forcing bicyclists to ride closer to the middle of the road, where they're in danger of being hit by a car or truck. When spring comes, the City should repave this trench to make it as smooth as the road. (Either the City or a contractor did some rudimentary patching of the worst sections, but the patching made the street bumpier and more dangerous for cyclists.)
  • TREE DOWN Archived
