Lafayette Park

Running water is trapped in the middle of the block no reaching the drains. it creates a health hazard, smells terribly and overall is a public nuisance. A sewer drain needs to be installed in the section where street caves in at 1428 Service St

The bike line headed West on Lafayette Street is usually blocked by cars using it as a turn lane. I ride my bike every day to work and I have to bike in the car lane or wait behind cars in the bike line who are turning right onto Chrysler. Despite road painting and a "share the road" sign, cars use the bike lane as a turn lane. Further down the road there are dividers in the bike lane, shielding bikers and blocking cars from entering. I would love to see these dividers added to this stretch of road to keep cars out of the bike lane.

The center of the park has been unmowed for weeks, but there has been some mowing around trees and benches.

Hi, Lafayette Central Park needs to be cross cut to avoid the piling of grass which dies, turns brown, and damages the grass beneath it.

At 8:00 am 4/21/2025 a large team of Detroit Thermal employees arrived in the historic district, used heavy equipment to remove steel manhole covering, built a temporary tent and began welding pipe and working within the manhole. There are at least a dozen workers today here and they could not provide a valid permit for what is clearly something more than "maintenance" or "safety." As the photos show they are working within the historic district installing new pipe. One guy had some sort of spool of measuring tape and it was swiftly unwinding as they were working under the historic district towards the next phase of their planned unpermitted excavation. Detroit Thermal continues to flaunt the authority of the HDC and refuses to explain to residents or the historic district what they are doing. It is clear they intend to keep as close to the original schedule they planned to work in the historic district whether or not they have a valid permit.

Cracked sidewalk into Lafayette Park next to Chrysler Elementary. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen should someone trip. Very dangerous.

This intersection is not well designed for cyclist safety. The bike lane, unprotected by bollards, is constantly driven over by drivers. At the light, drivers anxious to turn right on red, crowd cyclists and come close to hitting them when speeding past. It seems only a matter of time when an angry driver hits a cyclist following this path.

Garbage left neatly and contained on Labor Day is still not picked up and is now blowing all over Lafayette Park. Can someone please come and pick it? Thx!

This tree on the western edge Lafayette Central Park (between East Lafayette and Larned) is dead and needs to be removed.
