Sidewalks and Curb damage Archived179 Foxon Hill Road New Haven, CT - QuinnipiacResident is requesting to have the front of her property inspected. Street was paved a year ago. This property is near the corner of Foxon Hill Road and Quinnipiac which has a little bit of a down slope. There's no curbing or storm drain in front of her property or storm drain. So when it rains flooding occurs and water gets inside her basement. She claims it is causing erosion to her front lawn and damaging the newly paved street.

Drainage Request Archived388 Whalley Ave New Haven CT, 06511, USA - EdgewoodThe corner of Whalley and Norton does not drain anywhere. Every time it rains, there are large puddles along the curb all along Whalley and Norton. Additionally, when it gets cold after the rain, or it snows, there are large sections of ice all around the curb.

Public Space, Streets and Drains Archived720 Edgewood Ave New Haven, CT, 06515, USA - WestvilleAs I was trying to enjoy a quiet evening stroll this afternoon in Edgewood Park by the river with my 4 year old child, away from the horrible and constant noise of the quads and dirtbikes all up and down Edgewood Ave and surrounding streets, I was shocked to see one quad and one dirt bike reeming at full speed directly onto our path INSIDE THE PARK, which I have not experienced in the past years since the quads and dirt bikes took over our tax paying neighborhood. Thankfully I had my child's hand, otherwise he probably would have been crushed under their wheels after running away from the fear of the noise. The quad and dirt bike riders ripped past us and faded in the distance of the other side of the park before they came back AGAIN full speed. I then proceeded to choke on their diesel fumes. As we exited the park, we could tell the bikes continued their rides from one end of the park to the other. I can't even go to the park to breathe fresh air without having their fumes in my face. My son can't enjoy the natural oasis that this park once was without being threatened by high speed motor vehicles. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I AM A TAX PAYING CITIZEN AND I WANT THIS TO BE FIXED, NOW! it has been YEARS and I know for a FACT I am not the only one in my neighborhood to be FED UP.

This photo was not taken today and does not show the usual morning or late afternoon heavy vehicular traffic, but it does illustrate the intersection at Blake and Valley. On the right, is the Elm City Montessori School with a current preschool through elementary student population of approximately 270 kids. On the left is a surface parking lot that is often used as a cut-through by irate motorists who are frustrated by the frequent traffic back ups that occur here in the morning. Many of the students, including mine, walk to ECMS and cross this dangerous intersection at least twice a day. I have personally been hit three times over the past two years by vehicles piloted by drivers who either run the red light with the cross walk sign illuminated at this intersection or speed through the surface lot in their attempt to short cut the right turn from Valley to Blake. Thankfully, the incidents so far have been minor with no injuries beyond bruises and strained vocal cords. The recent addition of an illuminated "No Turn on Red" sign for those turning right from Blake to Valley has made a noticeable improvement. However, those coming from the opposite direction attempting to turn left from Blake to Valley, do not have an arrow, and often ignore the red light which endangers any pedestrians in the crosswalk. Similarly, those who use the surface lot as an auxiliary right turn lane, often do not watch for pedestrians on the sidewalk along Blake. My kids were almost hit this morning by someone speeding through the lot. I have witnessed near misses by other families crossing this intersection and have spoken to parents with similar concerns regarding the dangers here.
The convergence of significant vehicular and pedestrian traffic at this intersection, particularly in the mornings and late afternoons, warrants an immediate and comprehensive traffic engineering study by the City of New Haven. At a minimum, a left turn arrow for those vehicles turning left from Blake to Valley could be incorporated into the signalling system and would greatly reduce the danger to pedestrians at the crosswalk, as well as facilitate better and safer vehicular movement there. Removing the entry/exit and corresponding curb cut along Blake from the surface parking lot would regulate entry and exit to the lot from Valley Street and thus, eliminate the vehicular cut-through at that location. One could argue for a school crossing guard here, but I would contend that without the application of these two aforementioned basic changes to the intersection and parking lot, the underlying problems will continue to endanger those who use the crosswalks.
Apologies for the long-winded description, but these recommendations are reasonable and achievable. Immediate action needs to take place at the intersection of Blake Street and Valley road before we are faced with an avoidable tragedy.

Need Volunteer To Shovel Walk Archived2-90 Sheffield Ave New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Prospect Hill
I am in wheel chair and I catch public transportation. Today, when I was trying to get on the bus, there was too much snow on the curb and the handicap access ramps on the curbs for the bus to be able to lower the handicap accessible ramp, for to be able to mount with my wheel chair. When the driver tried to lower the ramp, because of the snow, there was a gap of about an inch or so. This is very unsafe for me, as well as other citizens. Please address this immediately. My concern today was at the bus stop I was at; however, this is happening all over the city. There has to be a better and safer system, to protect all the city's citizens, in times of inclement weather.
Also, when it rains the water pulls at the end of the parking lot and drains into the bus stop. When the temperature is at freezing levels, this area turns into an ice rink. If I go over the curb to reach the bus, I can lose control of my wheel chair and slide directly into oncoming traffic.

Public Space, Streets and Drains Archived470 James St New Haven, CT, 06513, USA - DistrictThere is a serious problem with oversized 18-wheel tractor trailers turning onto James Street only to find out they can't fit under the railroad overpass. I work at 470 James Street and have a window seat. At least 4 times a week, a truck pulls in, and then has to try to back out while impatient drivers keep trying to pass the truck. There should be a sign right at intersections of State Street, James Street and the I-91 exit ramp notifying truckers of the low bridge, or better yet, some kind of overheight warning signal.

Public Space, Streets and Drains Archived205 Church St New Haven, CT, 06510, USA - Town_GreenMy wife and I moved to New Haven last year and love it. However, crossing the Green can be very unpleasant with people blocking the pathways. Constant drug dealing makes the Green feel unsafe at the least. This issue is a black eye on this lovely city and easily remedied. Please help our city and make the Green pleasant for residents and tourists.
