Re: issue 6510319. Since the city won't allow us to comment on other posts, I've had to open a new one. The poster suggested making Autumn a one way. ABSOLUTELY NOT. For those of us who live on Autumn and the adjacent streets, making us sit through multiple light cycles at Winter and Main just to get home around the corner would be completely unfair. The idea has been raised before. Residents have been quite clear in their opposition.
The poster is however absolutely correct that the area has become unacceptably dangerous. I've seen the same reckless maneuver s/he describes more times than I can count. But the issue is a TOTAL AND COMPLETE LACK OF TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT at that intersection and more generally, city-wide. We need ENFORCEMENT of traffic laws against the people committing the violations, not rules that punish residents on top of everything else they are already being subjected to by commuters using our neighborhood as a shortcut. I have NEVER seen a traffic stop on Autumn. Literally NEVER, despite probably a violation a minute every day during rush hour.
102-148 Forest St Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 5There really needs to be a crosswalk from Mount Vernon to Forestdale Cemetery crossing Forest Street. Traffic is blind on both sides, and there's nowhere for pedestrians to cross the street. Running across the street is dangerous, and it's a pretty common place for pedestrians to cross given the entrance to the cemetery.
44 Sprague St Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 4Last evening walking back from the Malden T station along Florence Street, I found that the sidewalks were treacherous. I, and most other pedestrians, walked on the street. (The same has been true in past years.) Some of the unshoveled location is city property (bridge near the Y), other property is the zip car parking lot on Florence and several private homeowners. This is a well travelled pedestrian route that should have a high priority, in my opinion. Thanks.
Forest Street Malden, Ma - Malden Ward 5There are so many potholes up and down Forest Street on both sides from the Citizens bank all the way up the street, I’m going to avoid driving here because it’s getting pretty dangerous with all these potholes both for my tires & driving w/ a cup of coffee!
160-170 Forest St Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 5The whole street in that area is a mess starting at like Sylvan Street going down forest to Main , you can’t drive down that street without hitting some kind of pothole it’s been like that for two years , they are always doing work in that area but the street is a mess
865 Main St Malden 02148, United States - Malden Ward 5The sidewalk at this busy intersection hasn’t been cleared at all. There’s over a foot of snow making it impossible for pedestrians to get from Forest street to Main Street
02148 Malden, MA, USA - Malden Ward 5A few weeks ago we received a notice that the streets and sidewalks would be done. The workers on the street had no respect at all for other people's properties. Cleaning their tools in driveway ( we had a dumpster in our yard they threw consteuction debris inside) they did the concrete work in the rain and duct taped tarps to people's porches. They cut up our driveway and broke our fence. ( When I asked them who was going to fix it they stated it wasn't us) I stated I have you on camera . They told me they would have a owner call me it never happen. It's been 1 month now my driveway is still cut up. Drains sticking up thought the street cones everywhere. They now use wyeth street as a parking lot for their equipment even know they have not worked here in 3 weeks. Who is fixing my driveway??? And I have no sidewalk in front of my house so why did they even tear my driveway up?????
18 Vernon St Malden 02148, United States - Malden Ward 4RE: KAPPY’S LIQUORS on 746 Main Street in Malden 02148. Please make it crystal clear to Kappy’s owned Drizly Alcohol Delivery Car owner and ANYONE/EVERYONE who drives the vehicle to TURN OFF THE CAR RADIO FOREVER. It is kept in the back Vernon Street Parking Lot. Lowering it does NOT HELP. The BANGING BASS still is going on every other 5-10 minutes. And this has been going on since last summer. They’ve been contacted a million times already by the neighborhood. It is WINTER and windows are closed and No One should hear that car ever again. Have them tape the radio controls or keep the car in their FRONT parking lots.. right at their Front Entrance or Across the street in their 3rd parking lot off of Main and Orient Street. Summer will be here soon with windows open and I’m dreading it. People work from home, keep various hours, suffer from severe migraines etc and it’s rude and inconsiderate to the Residents. They should be fined with Noise Complaints. I hope this is the LAST TIME this needs to be addressed. It may sound ok to them.. it does not sound or feel (you can actually feel the BASS.. yes, even with volume lowered) ok in any way, shape or form from INSIDE of people’s homes. We are entitled to PEACEFUL ENJOYMENT OF OUR HOMES.
Main St Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 5
Main Street northbound in the area of Spadafora's Funeral Home often sees cars waiting at the stoplight form into two columns of traffic despite there being no lane markings to guide this behavior.
It usually results in cars from both columns trying to continue north on Main Street at the same time, and having to merge into the one lane that actually exists in the middle of the intersection while people are also trying to turn onto Winter and Forest Street.
This situation slows down the free flow of traffic and can become dangerous.
264-288 Bainbridge St Malden Ma 02148, USA - Malden Ward 5
I walk down Bainbridge towards Pierce every day on my way to Oak Grove MBTA station. There is no safe way to cross Bainbridge or Pierce Street at the intersection of these streets, especially during rush hour.
Cars taking a right from Pierce onto Bainbridge speed around the corner. Cars speed over the hill on Bainbridge. In both of these cases, the drivers have limited visibility of pedestrians as they approach.
What is especially concerning though, is that as a pedestrian trying to cross Bainbridge in particular, I cannot easily see cars that are flying around the corner or over the hill. I am afraid to I will get hit every day I attempt to cross Bainbridge near this intersection.
Can the city implement safety precautions for pedestrians? Maybe a painted crosswalk or, even better, signage to assist pedestrians in a safe crossing?
