  • 735-799 62nd Ave Ne St Petersburg, FL, 33702, USA - St. Petersburg

    Sidewalks has a lifted edge with > 1 inch

    The paths are very dark at night causing trips and falls by runners.

    The section along the baseball fields and the golf course have many sections which are no longer safe.

    Can the sidewalk team please grind down the high lips of the path?

    Lighting is also a problem along the pathway by the golf course. The combo of bad lighting and uneven sidewalks is dangerous for runners Thank you!

    Others have submitted this issue and the City has feigned responsibility. This property and the sidewalk easement is forever overgrown and an eyesore. It is owned by the Pinellas County School Board. The City installed the wide sidewalk/bike path as an extension to the North Bay Trail, but does nothing to keep it maintained themselves or coordinate with the School Board to mow the grass, trim the trees, remove trash and nuisance invasive Brazilian Pepper trees, and remove debris after storms. Someone needs be accountable for the poor maintenance of this property and the streetscaping associated with it. If it were a private residence on the opposite side of the road, the Codes Compliance people would be all over it. IF the YMCA is responsible, then they need to step up and do the right thing, but I'm pretty sure the lack of attention here is thanks to PCSB.

    Salutations;

    I am already a fan of the excellent work performed by Parks and Recreation in St Petersburg.

    I recently noticed some florescent orange markings on the sidewalk on the North side of 62 identify abrupt changes in height as one panel shifts upwards relative to the adjacent panel. A number of panels or squares are located and identified beside the Mangrove Bay and Cypress Links golf courses.

    I certainly agree that these marked panels should receive some attention and also feel that any change of height beyond one half inch or more would be difficult for roller blades and uncomfortable, if not dangerous, for smaller bike wheels. In other words, other panels should be added to the total already marked in my opinion.

    The paint defining the bicycle path starting from Bayou Grande Bld and continuing past the Vinoy Golf Club is extremely faint in a number of places and easily missed by riders and vehicles alike, possibly leading to dangerous collisions.

    Unfortunately, broken glass and other small pieces of garbage tend to accumulate in this bicycle path, sometimes forcing riders right off the bicycle path. Such obstacles requiring riders to keep heads down to avoid them, rather than being heads up and vigilant to traffic.

    Sometimes the path becomes narrower as required when the road narrows and drivers may not be aware of that issue, especially if a bicyclist has to be conscious of avoiding a downward traveling pedal hitting a curb, especially for smaller bikes with children, because a tumble is a likely result. Prudent riders tend to give curbs an extra clearance of about six inches beyond the extent of the pedal, which further narrows the remaining cycle path available for use. Catch basin covers, dips and depressions also add to concerns.

    I normally ride the 1st St, 62nd Ave, and through the Snell Island route about three mornings per week and would appreciate any attention that could be devoted to improving this bicycle path.

    In summary, leveling the worst sidewalk sections and repainting the bicycle path lines would substantially improve the enjoyment and safety for all stakeholders.

    Thank you in advance.

    In appreciation, best regards.

    Dave Wilson

    Yet another pothole in this road that’s not even fit for a MadMad movie. Seriously. Every month another pops up. Located on 62nd in the east bound lanes. Nearly bent my rim.
