Alden Ave At Fountain St. New Haven, CT - Westville
The light that effects traffic and pedestrian movement for the intersection of Fountain St, Alden Ave, Harrison St. and Philip St. has been operating very slowly since the new lights were put in. It is not unusual for vehicles on Alden and Harrison to wait 3-5 minutes for the light to change even when there is not traffic on Fountain Street. I will also call the Transportation, Traffic, and Parking Dept. about this.
Very dangerous. Cars travel too fast down this stretch of W. Rock. Too many pedestrians and cars for these excessive speeds with park entrance, basketball and tennis court activity, restaurants and farmers' market. Chicanes or speed humps are needed in a big way. Please help us calm traffic on this block before we have an incident like the W. Elm/Forest death.
C/O Valley And Blake Streets New Haven, CT - Westville
There are many mornings, including today, where the traffic signal at Valley and Blake, coming from Valley onto Blake, has inconsistent cycling. The signal for traffic on Blake will cycle through from green to red, however when it turns red, it will cycle again for Blake, with the signal for Valley Street staying red. It backs up traffic well past Emerson Street. It also causes some of the more cavalier operators to run the red light, cut into traffic, etc. This does not happen every day which is also odd.
Our car has been parked down in the middle of our driveway since Saturday evening and when I came out this morning all the contents of the glove compartment had been removed and left on the seats. I think they only took some change that was in a compartment between the seats. They did use my Blistex. Ick. I am usually pretty good about locking it but there was no sign of forced entry. They would not take the report over the non emergency number even though I do not require an insurance report. I have to go in person to the PD to report it. I am afraid these sorts of crimes are going unreported because of that policy.
It's rare when i actually see a driver come to a complete stop--nay, even slow to under 25 mph before blowing through this set of stop signs, usually going along alston towards edgewood or fountain. There are many younger children who live on woodbridge ave and the nearby streets who ride their bikes and scooters...needless to say, it's extremely dangerous for children and adult pedestrians alike. We need to have the City enforce these stop signs for the safety of all our neighbors.
Often, cars pull up in front of the Westville Post Office to drop someone off or put something in the mailbox. From that position, they are past the traffic light facing east on Fountain Street, but they should be able to see the smaller light at the corner of Harrison and Fountain -- but that one is blocked by a tree from their position. As a result they often run a red light, creating a dangerous situation at an already tricky intersection.
There is an improperly posted Toni Harp sign in downtown Westville on the right on the first block of Tour Avenue. It was posted on the public space outside the antiques store. These signs should only be posted on private property and should be removed, please.
