Notified About

  • Bay St Berkeley, CA, 94710, USA - Berkeley
The homeless encampment tents have moved off the railroad track back onto the freeway off ramp at Shellmound Avenue, and garbage from the site is scattered everywhere on that corner now. Is it possible to get everything cleared up and prevent the tents from moving back and forth from corner to corner in the area? Also, some vehicles that get off the ramp often stop by the tents, making it unsafe for other motorists exiting the freeway. I know that homeless encampments are a big discussion point for bay area city leaders but until they figure out how to best handle the situation, as a resident in the area, it is very frustrating to see these rent encampments and related issues that come with them constantly recurring in the neighborhood.

Yesterday around 5:45 pm, within one block of this location, I saw 5 people who were plainly incapacitated by drugs. One was lying on the sidewalk; another was sitting against a streetlight pole, yelling jibberish; and yet another crossed through the Center/Shattuck intersection blocking traffic and yelling obscenities at cars. This was just five minutes of activity, in the heart of our downtown.

I tend to see more of this activity at end of work day, particularly Friday. It is obviously unhealthy for these individuals to be left in this condition. And this concentration of drugged individuals interferes with public use and enjoyment, as well as safety.

I have not seen a police foot patrol through downtown in as long as I can remember. Why not? The police could and should intervene and call whatever mental health/medical service is appropriate.

There is an ancient redwood tree with a circumference of 150 inches, which is a heritage tree that was hacked by a developer. There were no permits pulled and the owner of the property did not grant access. It was not done by an arborist and the tree was trimmed about 40 percent only on the side of the developer. The tree is now dangerous and it it's too heavy for the way it was trimmed. It's a the address 6105 San Pablo Ave close to Marshall. Please do not share my information to the developer that did this illegaly.

I'm all for bicycling being accessible to everyone, but the new Go Bike installation at Trader Joe's eliminated several bike racks that me and my partner used. Now there are only 2 racks on the University Ave. side, which are crowded. In addition TJs employees take deliveries on the University side and often block bike racks. We want more bike rack parking near the street entrance. Please bring back the bike racks that were there.
