Fair Haven neighborhood

Notified About

  • 33 Humphrey Street New Haven, Connecticut - Fair Haven
This passage has only two lights (of 5) in the pedestrian area. The passage is also particularly dark in the day. It feels dangerous to travel through on a bike (on the road portion) because it seems that cars entering the underpass from full sunlight are temporarily blinded as their drives adjust to the dark area. I think a case could be made to leave the light on in the day to avoid accidental collision between bikers and cars.
  • 197 Front St New Haven, CT 06513 - Chatham Square
Cars are now drag racing on Front Street b/w Lewis and Grand. Last weekend, two drag-racing cars got into a accident plowing into the Oyster Cove Condos fence. Many of us park on the street as we do not have driveways. Two cars, racing side-by-side is a disaster waiting to happen - hitting cars or people.WE NEED SPPED BUMPS ALOG THIS STRETCH!!!!
  • Atwater Street New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Chatham Square
in the block of atwater street between chatham and grafton two house people sit on the porch selling
  • Clinton Ave/Chatham Square New Haven, CT - Chatham Square
Today (1/1/12), my husband and I witnessed two DIFFERENT sets of dirt bike riding teens riding very recklessly up and down Clinton Ave as well as the side streets around Chatham Square. Not only does this pose a major safety concern as there is no regard for stop signs/lights and other vehicles, but the riders are so brazen that they ride around in the middle of the day and even pulled up next to us as we walked our dogs, did their little "tricks" and then burned out as we shouted to them that we were calling the police. We did call the non-emergency number and were told that a patrol car would be sent out, but it would be more helpful if we had an origination address to report (?!?! not sure how that could be possible, but that is besides the point). The racing continued for a good part of the afternoon, so I'm not sure if anyone followed through on our call.
The bottom line is that someone is going to get hurt and the lack of response is sending the wrong message (well, the warmer than usual weather isn't helping either, but this is an issue that happens all year long). I understand that the NHPD isn't going to engage in any high speed chases, but maybe some increased patrol presence would send the message to these individuals to find something (better) to do.

39 Front St New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven
Broken park lights in park. None of the lights closest to the ferry street bridge are operational. It appears that they have been opened up at the vast and tampered with. Please address this issue!
  • 293 Clinton Avenue New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Chatham Square
Like clockwork; the dirt bikes out again at first sign of Spring. Can the NHPD let the community know what more needs to be done? This reckless and repeated violation of the law (by the same kids every year) has been going on for over 5+ years now. Mayor, Chief: the community has come through with their end of the deal helping support enforcement laws, what systematic approach is being implemented to finally rid the City of this constant attack on life quality?
  • Poplar St & Chatham St New Haven, CT - Fair Haven
Dirt Bikes & Quads 9/22/2013 --- This evening at 5:15 pm, there were five dirt bikes, two quads and two motorcycles heading both north AND south on Poplar St, which is a one way street. The entire group stopped at the intersection of Chatham / Poplar to spend time doing wheelies the wrong way down the street and to ride on the sidwalk. Group contained one red quad (two riders), one white quad, one red dirt bike, one yellow & white dirt bike, one green & white dirt bike (masked rider), one red & white dirt bike [removed], one green dirt bike, one yellow motorcycle and one black motorcycle. [removed] was also in the group. Attached is a photo of the group having just turned from Poplar (north) onto Lombard, heading east. NHPD, please take note.
  • 19 Clinton Ave New Haven, CT 06513 - Chatham Square

Now that the New Haven Public School System is not using Strong School (corner of Grand and Clinton) Avenues, as swing space there is no one monitoring the use and abuse of the park and parking lot behind the school. Most users are children under parental supervision but there is an increasing number of users without children hanging out at the park, drinking, destroying the rubberized ground cover around the playscape by pulling it out and throwing it out on the street (and on to my property). Neighbors have reported drug use and prostitution.

The neighborhood needs an expeditious determination as to what the NHPS system is planning to do with this property. We need to be told the plan and the time table.

In the meanwhile it would help if there were standing orders to have police driving by ask anyone on the property, not accompanying children under 12 to please move.

  • Clay St New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven
A crowd of rampage started on clay and James the other day, and many people were held up in traffic while two girls started fighting in the middle of the street. Guys came out and started yelling at each other and the 2 women watched. The men were arrested but they all put up a fight, blocking trafic, screaming like animals and saying things such as "you ain't bringin' me to jail!" my phone call to the police consisted of "please hurry, the cops are going to get hurt!"
  • 22 Front St New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven
Front street turns into a drag strip at night and during the day. Most of these cars and motorcycles sound levels are well above legal limits. It us getting really dangerous to walk down the road or sit in the park. Everytime we hear one coming we need to look to make sure we are not in thier path.
  • 101-105 Front St New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven
Mindless vandalism acts are among the biggest crimes against the community. Quinnipiac River Park is arguably the nicest walk along a waterfront in New Haven. Seeing those trees broken hurts me a lot. I believe that quick replanting of new trees would sens a message that there is a will to keep the Park clean and green.
