Notified About

  • Thomas Street West Haven, CT - West Haven

Cars park on both sides of the streets during snow storms still. In my several years in west haven I've never seen a violator towed or even ticketed?

The real issue is the number of cars parking on streets and number of tenants living in these properties, but aside from that it would be great if the city would actually follow through on the parking ban ticketing. Thomas street still pretty messy because cars were parked on both sides of the streets.

  • Beach St West Haven, Connecticut - West Haven
We now have a completely abandoned waterfront on Beach St. The Debonair, the Bait shop, Chicks, and Captains Galley. One abandoned business after another, still standing and unused. How can we revitalize this part of town? It has so much potential to attract business and visitors- it's prime real estate!
  • Beach St West Haven, CT - West Haven
This is a very hazardous area for walking, and there is no alternative across the street in front of Chick's, where there is no sidewalk and little room for a pedestrian. So pedestrians are forced to share this dangerous road with motorists who flaunt the absence of police patrol of this road (why is this??), and drive in reckless excess of the posted speed limit -- wait, there is NO posted speed limit on this road!. The city KNOWS this is a dangerous area because they put up cones for a charity walk on Sept 18, but then removed the cones at the end of the day. The problem is exacerbated by dangerous driving; east-bound motorists turn onto Beach St from Washington Ave, and then have the long straightaway to accelerate to speeds often exceeding 50mph, with complete impunity, reaching the bend at Morse Ave and often appearing to barely have control of their vehicle as they make the turn...right where pedestrians are now walking. All that's waiting to happen is for one of these motorists to be texting or talking on a cell phone, and for someone, tragically, to be killed or seriously hurt. This is malicious negligence on the part of the city of West Haven, and should something tragic happen, they should be taken to task and to court. There's no reason why they can't put up temporary structures, such as NJ dividers, to create a safe passage for ped's. Of course, there's also no reason why they can't install speed humps on Beach St (such as one finds more and more on streets in New Haven), or some other traffic calming device. And as days shorten, morning walkers are even more endangered, walking in the dark and sometimes in fog, by the long stream of speeding east-bound commuters (often using cell phones, doing their hair, etc.) who use Beach St as an alternative to other east-west roads that slow them down with traffic lights and stop signs.
    Shame on you, West Haven!!
  • Savin Rock Trail West Haven, CT 06516, USA - West Haven
I know this isn't a priority for most, but for those who use the wonderful open spaces along the shore this has been something that needs repair for a long time. The river outlet is an important part of the estuary ecosystem. Many people fish and crab in this river. Even though there is a small path around the fence I was told by a lifeguard that you cannot stand in the bridge because it may collapse??? If its that bad then it's imperative that this is replaced for the safety of people and the vital ecosystem that flows in and out of the river. There must be a way to secure funds to replace this bridge. It's the small projects that will make secure out shoreline as a place of ecological health and growth and that of our own. Please consider this as something important.

I drive passed this house almost every day on my way to work. On any given day, there are anywhere from 6-10 junk cars in the driveway, yard, and in the street. Some of them are sinking into the ground, others just falling apart. I would guess that only 2-3 of them are actually registered (if that, looking at the # of them without license plates). I can only imagine how this is affecting the value of the houses in this neighborhood and is just an eye sore in general. Aren't there zoning laws to prevent this from happening? Can someone please do something about this? Many West Haven residents are trying to keep West Haven clean, meanwhile there are travesties like this house going unnoticed.
  • 86 Sawmill Rd West Haven, CT 06516 - West Haven
The Graffiti on the railroad trestle on sawmill rd near railroad ave has been there for a few years and it is an eyesore. I have to look at it everyday coming home from work. It should be removed.
  • 64-88 Dawson Ave West Haven, CT 06516, USA - West Haven
There are no speed limit signs on the lower half of Dawson Ave near the most dangerous part of the hill. People are constantly traveling at excessive rates of speed both up and down the hill. Can't ticket someone if they don't know what the speed limit is there and/or it's not clearly posted.

  • 35 Prospect Ave West Haven, CT - West Haven

This home has been vacant for at least six years. There is occasional activity as occasionally people come and put stuff in it (in a minivan RIDDLED with Picard stickers) and takes stuff (childrens bikes, etc) out. I'm really not sure what they do there, my best guess is they're using it for storage.

On trash day there's always bags outside, even though no one lives there. It would appear that the trash is not being generated at this residence and is being brought from other locations. As is clearly evident in the attached picture, the roof is failing and I have personally witnessed wildlife entering the home. The attached photo is from when this home was put on the market some months ago, but pretty much tells the story. I know for a fact that I am not the first to complain about this property.

It would be safe to conclude that the owner listed as a "Daniel Rocano" on the vision appraisal site is connected to someone at town hall. Each time a complaint is lodged with town hall in reference to the state of this property, a short time later Daniel/etc show up to do some basic maintenance (lawn mowing/etc) without ever having addressed the real problem. The house is failing, and needs to be examined by building inspectors.

It is certainly pulling down the values of our homes and provides a very real health hazard to the surrounding homes.

I am looking into other ways to get some action on this, but figured I would start here.

If anyone from West Haven Town Hall reads this, please. Please. Do something. We have a great neighborhood. And a lot of wonderful neighbors. Daniel and his dilapidated home are not in standing with the neighborhood, and his lack of consideration has created a potential health hazard for anyone who lives around him.

  • 2-44 Beach Street West Haven, CT 06516, USA - West Haven
There are no trash pails in the parking lot. Fishing season has begun and there is lots people coming and going and no place to throw out trash. Now it's all over the lot and blowing in to the marsh.

the dog's name is Bella. I know, because this dog attacked me on the evening of Nov 26 2012 (less than 4 months ago), lunging up my hand as I pulled up and away on my dog's leash. I can only guess that the dog was originally going after my dog, but when she lunged at my hand, it was clear that she was attacking me. I have the scars from the three puncture wounds, and the 1 week course of antibiotics I had to go on as a result of a serious skin infection that resulted. I reported it that night to the PD, and a very caring and attentive animal control officer was at my house within 15 min. after taking a report from me, he then visited the owner of the dog, and called me the next day to confirm that the dog was current on rabies vaccination, was put on a 2week quarantine, and the owner fined $100 . That fine was not nearly enough, apparently, at least not as a deterrent, because last night the dog was off leash again, this time more than a block away from the owner's house. A man holding a leash, more than a half block away called after the dog, who didn't respond. Fortunately, the dog did not further pursue me and my dog. Today, I called the PD to report it, and the dispatch officer -- Standish -- said that I would have to be home between the hours of 8am and 4pm in order to report it, because Animal Control would not respond to a report of a dog off leash. I'm never home on weekdays during those hours -- I work! When I inquired, "even a dog with a history of attacking people?", Standish said, "sorry, that's protocol." I could try on the weekend, when I'm home. What this means is that a dog with a known history of aggression towards other dogs and people will be at large in our community, and my effort at exhibiting proper civic responsibility does me or my fellow West Haven citizens any good, because of the PD protocol.

Liquor store sells cigs to underage via older people out front. Young give money to older person who then buys the cigs and hands them off to the younger person outside.
