Notified About

  • English Drive New Haven, Connecticut - Cedar Hill

The Wilbur Cross Boy's and Girl's Soccer Teams practice all summer long at Rice Field but the Goal Nets are removed, there is no field marked out and there are no benches or bleachers to put their stuff on.

Especially given the fact that Soccer is the world's most popular sport and that the Wilbur Cross Soccer Teams have existed far too long on relatively miniscule budgets compared to other sports and with relatively substandard and historically unsafe facilitie...can they please be provided with at least a marked out field and the two Soccer Goal Nets to practice over the Summer months with?

  • English Dr New Haven, CT - East Rock
About a dozen dirt bikes were riding on the soccer fields early this evening, along with 4 ATVs. It was very noisy, unsafe with speeding along English Drive, and the wheelies/speeding are probably harming the fields.
  • English Drive New Haven, CT - East Rock
Motorbikes continue to present an extraordinary danger to pedestrians and their children and cyclists by screaming up the closed road from English Drive to the summit of East Rock. On the evening of 8/7/12, for example, three motorbikes sped up that road around 7 p.m., imperiling many parents and their children, adults and their pets, and cyclists out for an evening stroll or ride on the closed road. Police are rarely visible at the park and a sense of lawlessness pervades the area, which is generally filthy. A firm presence is required at the pedestrian entrances on English drive and on Trowbridge, off of State Street.

By my recollection, New Haven hasn't held an electronics recycling day for two years (http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/publicworks/recycling/electronics.asp). I've called the Department of Public Works about this and they always say they don't know when it will be held next. To keep consumer electronics (and the lead and other heavy metals they contain) out of landfills, the city should give people a way to properly dispose of electronics.

  • English Drive New Haven, CT - Cedar Hill

There were (at least) two motor bikes using mountain bike/jogging trails on East Rock. The image attached is of two men riding down the red trail that lets out at the intersection of English Dr., Rock, and View St.

Please re-categorize this report as necessary.

  • English Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
All spring and summer and into the fall I would make several bicycle trips a week to the top of East Rock, both for fun and for exercise. And each time I carried with me a grocery bag and each time I filled it with littler of all types thrown on the ground in the beautiful park (I've complained about it here multiple times).
Today, for the first time since October and for the first time since the park is closed for the season to automobile traffic, I took a ride to the top of East Rock and brought along my Ferraro's grocery bag. Lo and behold, the gate from the lower parking lot to the summit was closed and locked until spring, so I rode around it and pedaled my way to the top slowly, expecting the standard regular stops to pick up beer cans, Dunkin' Donuts bags and cups and lids, tiny liquor bottles, Newport packages, piles of empty beer bottles, Marlboro Light packages, and tons of paper bags and napkins.
But NO! There was no litter except for one old and soggy Mike and Ike box, which could have been there for a month or more.
So, Eureka! Clearly the answer to solving the constant, filthy and embarrassing mess that local visitors to East Rock leave on the ground in this beautiful and nearly sacred park, is to BAN ALL AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC.
    It's just that simple.
Once cars are blocked from entering the park the littering stops.
City of New Haven: This is an idea worth considering. Make East Rock pedestrian only.

  • English Drive New Haven, CT - Cedar Hill
Although it's quiet given there's snow on the road, when the weather is good and the road is clear, motorbikes continue to present an extraordinary danger to pedestrians and their children and cyclists by screaming up and down the closed road from English Drive to the summit of East Rock. Police are rarely visible at the park and a sense of lawlessness pervades the area, which is generally filthy. A firm presence is required at the pedestrian entrances on English drive and on Trowbridge, off of State Street.

A stop sign is needed at this three-way intersection to keep traffic going at a reasonable speed. Friends of East Rock Park is working with the city to try and make this happen.

  • 92 Welton St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Cedar Hill
There is no sidewalk from Albert st to Welton st corner. I have been calling Public Work since 9/2009 and nothing has been done. All the neighborhood kids must walk in the street from their bus stops. Very dangerous with alot of truck traffic from Krevitz Co. which is at this intersection.
