Notified About

  • Dirt Bikes Archived
West Rock Avenue And Westwood Road New Haven, CT - Westville
Recent reports of dirt bike activity on Westwood Road have gone unheeded. The activity has been reported to the police none emergency number at least two times and the location of the bike and the individual housing it have been reported also. The rider has been seen several times blowing through stop signs. Will this issue be ignored until the rider is injured and some unawares motorist or pedestrian has a really, really bad day? No feed back from the NHPD has been forthcoming.
  • 755 Edgewood Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Westville
This morning, as the Edgewood school crossing guard stood in the crosswalk holding her stop sign up, I stayed in the opposite crosswalk on Edgewood so my kids could cross the street and get to Edgewood school. A driver attempted to GO AROUND ME as kids were starting to ride their bikes across the street. I yelled at her to stop and she screamed obscenities at me, causing at least one child to start crying. Traffic calming measures around Edgewood School can’t come soon enough.
  • Chapel Street And Alden Ave. New Haven, Connecticut - Westville
I jog almost every day around 3:30-4:00pm and i stand at this crosswalk to cross the road. Sometimes I have to wait for 5-10 cars to pass until I can cross. No one stops, and it is not dark out so they clearly see me standing there. They are just cutting through the neighborhood at 40+ mph to get to forest rd. Please set up a traffic cop here, if you need someone to be a pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk, I would be glad to!! There is no red light and the signs in the middle of the road clearly state you must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk yet no one does. Thanks for your help in this matter.
  • 820-836 Whalley Ave New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Westville
I was just a witness to the dirtbike accident where the rider ran two red lights in a wheelie before hitting a vehicle and severely injuring his leg. Why has the State done nothing to improve traffic safety here and why does the police not enforce speed limits here? Vote here if you want traffic safety improved at the corner of Fountain and Whalley.

If these sidewalks were in better condition, my friend Hanna here would have even more freedom to explore!

Having walked from Westville to the YNHH neighborhood and back and then watched the progress of clean up in this neighborhood, I want to thank the City of New Haven and the DOT for a remarkable effort. I know that there is still much to do and many people working with limited equipment. Those who are putting in the long hours and effort are deeply appreciated!
  • Damaged Sidewalk Acknowledged

Sidewalk, (walking area) is severely damaged on West Rock Ave, in front of tennis courts and park. Hazardous for walkers, joggers, the elderly and playing children.
  • 95 Fountain St New Haven, Connecticut - Westville

This is a very tricky intersection, and most of it can be attributed to the traffic light. My perspective is one as a pedestrian, often crossing with small children. Nearly every time we attempt to cross Fountain St, there is at least one car (often multiple cars) running through the red light. While the drivers should get some blame (please, police this intersection!!!), the traffic signals deserve some blame. It is a 4-way intersection between Harrison, Alden and Fountain, but Alden and Harrison do not line up with each other. For cars traveling North on Fountain, there are two traffic lights and it is not clear where you are supposed to stop. The second of the traffic lights is almost completely covered by a tree - also a problem. Drivers are often confused if they make it through the first light but see the next one. It is a long drive to make it through the whole intersection.

This is downright treacherous for pedestrians. You really don't know when it's clear to walk through because so many drivers are confused (or just outright breaking the law). I would suggest a longer yellow light, a clearer sense of where to stop, and patrolling. With multiple churches/temples, a post office, a library, chapel haven and Westville village all within a stones throw, there are many, many pedestrians coming through this intersection. Please make it safer for us!

  • 317 Alden Ave New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Westville
The intersection of Alden Ave and Willard Street needs to be a four way stop for all vehicles. There are far too many accidents and near accidents at this location. Plus, it will stop the constant speeding down Alden Avenue. It is difficult and frightening to cross Alden Avenue for pedestrians.
  • Edgewood Ave New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Westville
There is the persistent problem of cars speeding on Edgewood Avenue, near the intersections of McKinley and Alston day and night. Chapel street neighbors complained and got a police presence and a device that measures, records, and posts cars' speeds which seems to have helped over the past few weeks. Please come on over to Edgewood near McKinley and help us now!
  • 538 Central Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Westville
I've written a letter to Toni Harp appealing to her for a resolution i.e. low speed humps in both directions before Central and Willard intersection. I feel that something has to be done. Cars fly by at unreasonable speeds jeopardizing safety for all walkers, children & dogs and themselves! Not sure you know of those speed humps on Lawncrest Rd I'm interested in knowing how traffic and neighbors feel. Is it working ???
  • 1246 Forest Road New Haven, Connecticut - Westville

There is a 10 ft tall, 40 foot long hedge infested with poison ivy, here. The hedge is not kept trimmed, so at this point is is making the sidewalk impassible and is a serious health and safety issue. This is a high traffic sidewalk for the local Jewish Community, who walk to temple.

Trying to reopen this. The Poison Ivy is worse than ever. The property owner is unwilling to do anything.
