151 Clinton Ave New Haven, CT 06513 - Chatham SquareA bike lane is needed between the existing Clinton Ave. and Orange Street bike lanes. If you agree click, "I want this fixed too” and comment. Pictures welcomed. We especially want to hear from folks currently biking from Chatham Square Neighborhood to any place north of the Green or beyond. Come on people we can get this! Here is one proposed route:
Clinton Avenue New Haven, CT - Chatham SquareThis young man was popping wheelies down Peck Street and then kicked my car as he went by.
Atwater Street New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Chatham Squarefrom atwater and chatham towards grafton or clinton av. constantly drivers peeling out or racing every day all hours day or night, fresh tire marks daily
Chatham Square New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Chatham SquareI thought maybe I had become a curmudgeon, but after speaking with other friends and neighbors in the Chatham Square neighborhood, it's clear I'm not the only one who's sick of the ice cream truck. I don't know what the truck looks like, because I was afraid I would confront the driver (and not nicely) if I bothered to go out and check, but there is an ice cream truck that not only drives around with music blaring, but also has that horrible recorded "Hello!" bellowing well past 9:30 p.m. many nights, including weeknights. I make my children go to bed at 9:00 p.m., and I don't make it much longer, so this is a major annoyance, to say the least. All of my other friends who are parents find this after hours ice cream truck ridiculous and annoying, too. Is there some sort of noise ordinance against this? I would hate to egg the ice cream man, but I'm getting really close to doing it!
217 Chatham St New Haven, CT 06513 - Chatham SquareEmpty warehouse...grounds over grown / building in horrible condition. Have called the owner without response. Need help to clean-up and force the owner to care for property.
468–498 James St New Haven 06513, United States - Mill RiverThere is no pedestrian crosswalk here at the offramp and there is no safe way to walk from James to State Street. This becomes a problem as the district has now opened.
80 Downing Street New Haven, CT - Chatham Square
I don't get it: the public has presumably called in hundreds maybe even thousands of times now about the less than ten or so dirt bikes--they are the SAME bikes--ridden year-in, year-out with the same riders--that recklessly run at everyone pedestrians, cars, ride at and on sidewalks with children playing, joyriding at dangerously high speeds. In addition the public has: helped pass the new confiscation law passed in 2013 to address uninsured, unlicensed, reckless ridership(Sen. Martin Looney just sent me campaign lit. about it).
And yet here we are in 2014: the same group of young adults and adults alike behaving badly with no consequence. Perfectly peaceful Sunday and then this. Is this problem *really* that hard to solve? Can we solve it once are for all so that NHPD can focus their efforts elsewhere? We know the bikes, what they look like, what decals they have, who the riders are and in most cases even where they live.
Again, I don't get it. Happy 2014.
Atwater And Chatham New Haven, CT - Chatham Square
High speeds, completely reckless joy riding continues and has continued (sporadically) for weeks now. 3 young adult riders out at 7:30PM tonight, 9-18-13, barely visible in the night time hours to drivers and pedestrians.
Also, one kid riding tonight has been riding his red and white dirt bike for weeks now with zero consequence to him despite my suspicion that it is known to many who he is and where he lives. A likely message he is getting from inaction is that he is above the law; not a good lesson to learn at any age.
Bus Stop In Fron Of Ruppalo Manor. Ferry & Grafton St - Chatham SquareDrug dealers and prostitutes are using the bus stop on Ferry & Grafton St as their headquarters.
155/153 Lombard St New Haven, Connecticut - Chatham Square
The issues are blight and vermin. 155/153 Lombard St has absentee landlords who are allowing their property to deteriorate. Racoons and squirrels have been seen coming in and out of the house, where they have built nests, causing health and safety issues. The shingles are falling off the house making it not only unsightly, but attracting vermin to make nests.
These issues are reducing the value of my home and the properties of owner occupied single and multifamily homes as well as any absentee landlord who might be taking good care of their properties.
I work with Chatham Square Neighborhood Association, and am on the EDC of said organization. Several members of this organization and I have formed Fair Haven Forward. We are trying to make this neighborhood one where people will want to come visit, shop, live and work. But houses like this will keep good people away. Tenants and home buyers will look elsewhere. I know I wish I did! But I was told this problem was being resolved. Instead it has gotten worse.
Clinton Park New Haven, Connecticut - Chatham Square
4 off-road vehicles tearing up the Clinton Ave. School fields afternoon of Sat. 4/5/14 Brazen riding on sidewalks and near kids' playgrounds. Disregard for safety all-around. Tired posting about this since nothing seems to change (although it seems the NHPD is doing their job here).
Mayor, any thoughts? Or the scofflaws can have their way and disrespect the quality of life of the community. When taxes go up will this magically go away?
Chatham Square Park New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Chatham Square
I took a walk through our park this morning with my daughter. As I was walking along, I noticed that over half a dozen trees in the park have been hacked up, possibly killing them!
These trees have had a lot of time invested in them through the Greenspace program, URI, the School of Forestry, and neighborhood groups through planting them and taking care of them. They shade our park in the summer and make it a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy.
And now some two bit hack (or group of said hacks) comes along and takes a shovel to the trees?! Do they know that the life of a tree flows through the bark? What is the point of killing our beautiful trees?
Some of the trees have obviously been just planted while others have been in the park for years and are quite well established.
What can we do about this?! Please New Haven Police, patrol this park at night! I have talked to the guys that hang out in the park during the day, as well as some neighbors who I saw about and none of them seem to know who is behind this.
I love my neighborhood very much but sometimes it seems to do nothing but want to self-destruct. I just don't get it.
