The sewer lines on Lawrence from Broadway to Sheridan are not draining. There has been standing water on Lawrence and in the alley between Winthrop and Kenmore for weeks. The overload caused major backups in drains during last night's storm. When will the sewer lines be cleared to improve drainage in this area?
As has happened in past winters, the owners of the abandoned Columbus Maryville Campus at Motrose and Clarendon have failed to adequately remove the snow on sidewalks adjacent to the property. Of particular concern is the stretch of Montrose west of Clarendon.
Cracks in concrete walls, huge pieces have fallen from top floor. City needs to become involved and they Sisters need to be taken to Housing Court for building code violations. I understand they just walked out so toxic radiology and other chemicals are most likely leaking into the ground water. I checked Housing Court records and supposedly they have no reports? Very hard for me to believe.
Please be courteous of all of your neighbors. Many of us walk and rely on these sidewalks. You are required to shovel after a snowfall. Unfortunately the city doesn't fine people for noncompliance, so I'm turning to publicly posting this in hopes that the next snowfall results in shoveling.
The good sisters have left the property at the old Merryville vacant for five years. It is falling down . They want millions for the property. They are holding the neighborhood hostage. They need to be forced to tear down the building. Why have they not been taken to Housing Court? I have asked the alderman's office repeatedly. No response. I assume it is another Chicago political fix. They pay no taxes and will reap millions when it sells. Yet they have left it to be a crime scene and place for gangs. The West building has just lost two portions of the upper cornice. cornices. The Catholic Church in Chicago should be so proud if it's record of creating ghetto property .while reaping millions tax free.
