Watching issues created after: 2015-10-12

I am a public watcher interested in fixing issues as quickly as possible after they arise. I don't "fixes" that do not permanently address the problem, nor do I want the fix to take so long that it creates an issue of its own.

  • Mastin Lake Road Between Delia Ln And Jordan Lane ...And Between Nathalee Ave And Jordan Lane Huntsville, AL - Huntsville
The neighborhoods that live in that area desperately need a sidewalk to provide safe passable access to the stores and restaurants on the corner of Jordan lane ...not only for pedestrians but for people with disabilities using mobility scooters. The people with disabilities are forced into the street with traffic sometimes in excess of 40 mph. Rocks or other debris kicked up by cars could seriously injure those people...and an accident would almost guarantee death. The stretch of sidewalk needed is less than 1 mile long and would be beneficial to both the residents and the businesses. The need is urgent.

Create an Amtrak, commuter/regional rail station to allow for passenger transportation to Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville and other areas where Huntsvillians regularly travel to. It would also become an opportunity for visitors to arrive in the Downtown and enhance the amount of public activity in the city. The current Historic Depot and C&VB could be integrated into the design.
  • 35803 Huntsville, AL, USA - Huntsville
New street under development in the Dairy at Oak Grove. New street name is South Meadows Drive. At one point in time I ran into Joel Ostrander (site supervisor with Davidson Homes) and asked him when the street lights would be put in and he said he didn't know and they weren't planning on installing them. I thought this was the responsibility of the builder / land developer to install these along with the city. Homeowners will be moving onto that street in 2 months or less and this will pose a security risk.
  • 12000-12096 Chaney Thompson Rd Se Huntsville, AL, 35803, USA - Huntsville
Here we go AGAIN! The intersections of Chaney Thompson - Mt. Gap and Chaney Thompson - Wynsom are back to being very dangerous during school drop off and pick up times. I witnessed 2 near misses on Chaney Thompson and 3-4 on Wynsom this morning alone. All of these were from drivers not following traffic laws: making U-turns at street entrances, not yielding to oncoming traffic, not having proper following distances (sometimes barely any distance at all), etc. We have asked repeatedly for increased traffic enforcement at these intersections. It has been periodically provided and individuals continue the dangerous behaviors in front of officers with no penalty. At what point is the safety of those around the school important? I've been nearly hit several times by people using my driveway as a turnaround at unsafe speeds. When will the safety of children walking home become a priority? Please help make our neighborhood safe again.
  • 6722-6764 Old Madison Pike Nw Huntsville, AL 35806, USA - Huntsville
Huntsville does not have a Macys department store. Bridge street is an up-scale shopping area well located with good access. Macys woudl help Huntsville and Bridge Street.
  • 677 Old Gurley Rd Ne Huntsville AL 35811, USA - Huntsville
They put some patch on today. Its just a patch not a fix. There is no patching in the world that will bring Old Gurley up to the standards of other roads in the area. It needs to be completely stripped and widened - a new base installed and a couple courses of asphalt. Shoulders are needed perhaps even sidewalks as there are times people are walking or riding bicycles causing hazards for themselves and motorists. This is the 21st century and this old road is no longer capable of handling the traffic required by the development in the area. Bottom line: Old Gurley is a disgrace and a safety hazard - the situation should be addressed by the City and County well beyond the occasional cold patches...Update - the area of disrepair is between Barkwood and Harris Hill Rd.
  • Ward Avenue Northeast Huntsville, Alabama - Huntsville
Ward Avenue NE needs a stop sign at the intersection with England Street. There is a hill that is difficult to see over. Traffic flies down Ward Ave at speeds well over the limit frequently. Several houses on the 1000 block of Ward have children. The road is very dangerous in that section. A stop sign would force traffic to slow down and be more cautious of cars backing out of driveways and children playing when heading west over the hill.

700–804 Weatherly Rd Se Huntsville 35803, United States - Huntsville
Increased traffic and excessive westbound speeds on weatherly are making left turns from Hickory Hill difficult and dangerous. It’s becoming a 50mph road and that’s difficult to turn on to.
  • 212 Main Street Madison, Alabama - Madison

Beautiful downtown Madison is a jewel. There are many lovely storefronts and businesses that are a tribute to native, long time and new residents of the wonderful community. Sadly there are several buildings, all owned by the same family, that have varying degrees of neglect and deterioration and some of those issues affect the potential health and safety of others.

The old hardware store buildings on the east end of Main Street, adjacent to the owner's restaurant, Bandito Burrito, and the old Humphrey Hughes Drug Store building a few store fronts away, also on Main Street, and the pitiful old metal buildings behind Main Street and on Martin Street have far too long been an eyesore and an insult to the Madison community.

Even with all the Phase I addition of new store front buildings, new parking, new landscaping, new lighting, etc and the long awaited Phase II having already begun, the old buildings remain an eyesore, a safety hazard, and frankly inexplicable.

When asked about it months ago, one of the owner's stated: "IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!"

I take exception...the obvious decline of a precious and irreplaceable downtown main street IS the business of all who live and work in Madison.

I would hope that public pressure can be brought to FORCE the City of Madison Mayor, City Council, City Planning, City Zoning, etc leaders will step up and make the Anderson family repair these buildings to improve safety, restore them to reasonable appearance and maintain them on an ongoing basis or force them to sell the properties or take them by legal action.

It simply must be addressed NOW!

If you agree, please contact the City of Madison and demand they do their job!

  • Drake Avenue Between Dotson And Lucerne Huntsville, Alabama - Huntsville
There is a wire laying across a busy sidewalk on Drake between Lucerne and Dotson. It has been like this for some time. It is a dangerous tripping hazard. It has a cone by it. The wire comes down the pole across the sidewalk and then into a residential yard.
  • 3918 Hawthorne Avenue Southwest Huntsville, Alabama - Huntsville
Picnic table has been removed from its concrete pad. I know it puts it under the shade tree but it was not originally meant to be there.
