On February 22 I reported that this was a rental and that it had no screens and had windows that didn’t open and the inside is atrocious, bug infested and disgusting. The Code Officer decided to close this case as “invalid complaint“ because the property is currently vacant. Well that certainly makes sense but is she going to monitor this complaint when he puts new tenants in there? Also I have been told by many a code officer that once the property is rented they cannot enter without the tenants or the landlords permission, so I was told to notify them when questionable places were vacant. So which is it… When can the code officer do their job… When the property is vacant or when it’s occupied??! It’s clear from the amount of posts on this site that we are trying to rid this neighborhood of these horrible slumlords… I wish the codes department would work with us and not against us!
North east corner of 14th Ave., South and 5th St., South. Once again as is customary for this lady in the 30 years she’s lived here… She will not maintain anything unless you give her a violation I can’t even imagine the cost to taxpayers in paying the code officer all these years! Please have her expose her curb like the rest of us have to do.
Duplex is completely falling apart. Roof is caving in and the porch is a hazard. The owner lives in the house next to this one (636 maybe) and neglects all of his properties. After the storm the roof is now caving in and owner is not doing anything to make safe
1299 5th st s. Overgrown. Dead palm limbs. Other misc dead plant material. This guy had two illegal piles on his land for almost a year completely against code done with no permits, finally after months and months of citizens putting in complaints the code department took him before the code enforcement board where he proceeded to lie by telling them it was impossible to spread the piles out without heavy equipment… Then proceeded to coerce somebody to spread one pile out - completely by hand! Then the code enforcement board gave him 45 more days after almost a year of doing nothing and basically told him he can come back in 45 days and they give him another extension. So this contractor/builder has never done one single maintenance on this property, the cities had to mow it every single time in the past year, had these piles of trash and debris that were illegal and he just keeps getting extensions and no fines. But if the rest of us have overgrowth onto the sidewalk we get a 10 day notice and then get $100 civil penalty. Something is really wrong with the way the city handles these cases!
