Notified About

  • 301-347 College St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Downtown
The lovely green, New Haven's front lawn -- open for all to come and enjoy -- is almost always a littered mess.
I'm not saying we should arrest litters, but begin issuing tickets for littering. It's a small, quality-of-life step that can yield large results. Clean the Green, a small effort that can sow pride. We all -- even the thoughtless litterers -- feel better when the world around us isn't a filthy mess. And if the city won't crack down, we can do it ourselves; just carry a plastic grocery bag with you and pick up after you messy brothers and sisters when you get the chance. It's good exercise.
  • 140-196 Elm Street New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown
A guy came over by the benches by the bus stop, dropped his pants and took a dump right next to the benches. Then he wiped him bum with paper towels and walked away. Please have some one clean up this stinky, nasty mess!
  • New Haven Green New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown
Just a note to say that the past few days there has been a whole lot of trash scattered all over the New Haven Green. It seems much worse than other times, even compared to early last summer. Embarrassing to walk through there with visiting out-of-towners, and sad for those of us who really love using the Green as a public space. It's the center of the city we're so proud of; it shouldn't be covered in garbage.
  • 181-193 York Street New Haven, Connecticut - Yale University Campus
Today, Thursday March 12 at 4:35pm a group of about 6-8 young men on dirtbikes rode West up Chapel street past the art museum and turned right onto York street heading toward Elm. They were weaving through traffic around cars and pedestrians. Complete disregard for traffic laws, red lights or safety. Maybe this is the year New Haven rids itself of the dirt bike epidemic?
  • New Haven Green New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown
The New Haven Green smells heavily like urine and is littered with trash (including sharp glass fragments from many broken alcohol bottles, which is dangerous). It's embarrassing for the city to have our central square be in such a state, but more embarrassing that our inattention to the homeless is what causes it to be so. What is New Haven doing to help those who most need it and, in so doing, helping to preserve our public spaces?
  • 250 Temple Street New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown
Intense and disturbing widespread squalor and filth throughout the New Haven Green. The garbage in effect makes the green an exclusive park for those who throw trash on the Green and for those who aren't bothered by all the trash. For the rest of us, although the Green purportedly ours, nobody else wants to go near such a dump. I'm sure there is no remedy for this sad mess except to fence it off to everyone. And that won't happen either.
  • 344 College Street New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown

At the corner of Elm and College, there is a right turning lane that intersects with the bike lane. It is difficult for cars to see bikes as they turn, which has resulted in several accidents. Technically, both have the right of way here, so it is incredibly dangerous for both cyclists and drivers. Please fix this issue before more people get hurt.

  • 289 Chapel Street new haven, ct - Dwight
The sidewalk and street in front of this metal dump is always dirty and full of nails, shrapnel and metal pieces making it very dangerous when biking. I have to bike in the middle of chapel street around that area causing cars to swerve around me and cross the double yellow lines. This company should be fined for littering and should clean up Chapel street around them. Finally, there are often illegally parked trucks and pickups on the sidewalk without proper lights or safety signs causing delays in traffic and danger to pedestrians.
  • 965-999 Chapel St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Town_Green
Traffic calming, like Ped refuge islands similar to those installed on Edwards St are needed before the next speeding driver flips his car and kills 20 people.
  • Scooter gangs Archived
851-881 Chapel Street New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green

Three times in the last month, I've seen a group of teenagers riding around on scooters recklessly and illegally. None of the scooters have license plates, and one of the looks like the plate bracket itself was broken off -- leading me to suspect they were stolen. The kids dodge in and out of traffic, up onto sidewalks, and dive through red lights.

Given how many cars I see stopped for speeding or other minor traffic infractions, I'm amazed that this reckless theft and endangerment doesn't seem to concern the police. I understand it would hard to catch these kids -- they would scatter in 4 different directions if they saw a cop -- but doesn't the law apply to them too?

A wild turkey was wandering around the green on 4/28 and 4/29. I don't know how it got there. It probably should be taken away, the city is no place for a turkey.
