This Could Be... Acknowledged88 Canal St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Monterey Place
This Could Be Scantlebury Skateparklet.
From the application to http://couldbefund.com:
"Our project is a skateboarding parklette built within Scantlebury Park, intended to use skateboarding to connect the New Haven residents with the Yale community in an equitable way. Historically, the two communities have been separated both physically and socially. In providing a new space at the apex of several New Haven neighborhoods and Yale’s campus, this project offers a new opportunity for these communities to come together. Moreover, it positions the communities as equals. The project would be a joint venture between Yale University (The Yale Undergraduate Skateboarding Union & Schwarzman Center) and citizens of New Haven and be developed by both Yale personnel and New Haven residents. "
"Our project requires approximately 4,000 square feet of unused city land on Scantlebury Park. In addition, we will require a contractor and/or designer with experience in skatepark design and construction. We are currently working to gain the assistance of one or more members of the Yale School of Architecture to collaborate and assist on our final park design.
Both the Scantlebury Park location and skateboarding culture hold unique potential for accomplishing our goals because they exist at the intersection of dynamic communities of place and of practice. The park is situated in Dixwell, one of the city’s more underserved neighborhoods, while also on the frontier of Yale’s campus. Culturally, skateboarding is the nucleus of a creative community that values design, painting, photography, film, music and entrepreneurship, along with athletic expression. Geographically and culturally, this project offers a community space with uncommonly low barriers to entry and many thereof. "

Yale workers parked in Zone 7 Archived68 Mansfield Street New Haven, Connecticut - DixwellThere is no place for residents us to park in the first long stretch of Mansfield from Sachem. Almost all of the cars are "visitors", although they only visit during working hours, and seem to be visiting people who live in the Yale residential colleges where no one lives.
There are also a number of cars that aren't even pretending, and have no kind of permit at all.
What is the city's plan to stop this kind of abuse? We would really like to hear how they are going to solve it, because sporadic ticketing doesn't do it. They need to CHANGE the system of visitor permits to stop the misuse. -
Sidewalks and Curb damage Archived44 Winchester Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - DixwellCity tree has caused sidewalk to buckle as well as the curb. Sidewalk is a tripping safety hazard. I have tripped and have observed many pedestrians doing the same. I know I am responsible for keeping the sidewalk clean/shoveled but I do not believe I am responsible for any damages caused by the tree planted by the city. Thank you.

Traffic / Pedestrian Safety ArchivedWinchester & Sachem New Haven, Connecticut - DixwellThe pedestrian signal is not enough for this intersection. There should be a full traffic light here, as cars speed through the intersection and rarely slow - even if pedestrian signal is flashing.

Cars on Odd Side blocking plows Archived25 Woodland Street New Haven, Connecticut - DixwellThere are two cars still parked on the odd side of Woodland Street more than 12 hours after the parking ban. At least one of them is a resident, always parks here, and seems to have no parking permit (CT AH-91067). If they are not towed, the plow will go around them, leaving huge piles of snow that will make parking impossible for other residents who acted responsibly. Illegal AND inconsiderate.

169 Winchester Street New Haven, Connecticut - DixwellFor years the landlord at 169 Winchester insisted in pushing all the trash and recycling from his 4 rental units up against the wall of MY house so it wouldn't smell for his own tenants. Now this selfish and inconsiderate person is gone, and the tenants have moved the containers away. But today the new owner allowed workmen to pile up rotting construction debris against MY house. Why not against his OWN property? What kind of ridiculous behavior is this? LCI please keep this from happening again!
