A family on my block allows their three young children (between the ages of 6 and 12) practically free reign of the streets at night. I have witnessed these kids throwing rocks at cars, fighting, yelling, and screaming obscenities at one another. Tonight they were outside in the middle of the road (which is a fairly busy street), in the dark, hitting each other with shovels and yelling "I'll kill you." Kids having fun is one thing, but these kids are out of hand.

Not only is this a noise issue, but I am worried that one of these kids is going to get hit by a car. People speed down our street all the time.

I don't want to be rude or to make enemies with my neighbors, but I've lived here for three years now and these kids just get worse and more violent with each other every summer. Is there anything I can do about this? I called in a noise complaint once, but the police never showed.

  • West Park Avenue & Elm Street New Haven, CT - Edgewood
The other day, I was walking along West Park Avenue and saw two cars in a row drive right through the traffic circle at speed. I don't know why it was installed to be so low, instead of having a curb, but couldn't a railing be installed to prevent this?

47 West Park Avenue New Haven, CT - Edgewood

While I realize this is a personal incident, I also read in the papers of it happening with a fair amount of frequency, which is why I am raising the issue here.

On November 3, 2011, I was in the "straight" lane (2nd or 3rd) at the intersection of Park and South Frontage in New Haven (more or less in front of Smilow Hospital). I was on a bike, at the light, and the first vehicle in line. The light turned green, and a mini-van behind me made a left-hand turn into me, knocking me over, but kept on going. I lay in the street for approximately fifteen minutes while all of the cars continued to go around me (it was about 9:00 am on a Thursday) until I finally got myself up and managed to walk to 800 Howard Avenue where I had been enroute to a doctor's appointment.

While the security guard in the building called the police and a report was made (case #11-64451), I have never heard another word. In the interim as a direct result of the accident, I have had to have my entire back fused, have been informed that every bit of cartilege and muscle and ligament was torn from my right shoulder and that there is nothing that can be done to address the problem since there is basically nothing left, and have lost a large degree of mobility besides being in almost constant pain. Yet because of my economic situation and personal situation (my husband, the former City Librarian of New Haven, had died two months before) I had to return to work full-time anyway.

Since I have never heard a word from anyone "official," it is as if the accident occurred in a "black hole," with little or no relevance to anyone save myself.

Are such cases always left more or less hanging, with no sense of closure whatsoever? I am told that I was fortunate that I wasn't killed, but given what I was left to live/exist with, I have to wonder...

Thank you in advance for whatever information you might provide.

  • Jewel Street And Whalley New Haven, CT - Beaver Hills
This same white, 18 wheeler is parked in front of the cemetery on Jewel St. as it has been for the past 2 weeks. No ticket is seen on its windshield. I am told often that the issue is being taken care of by Traffic and Parking. I see no movement on this issue. If this truck is illegally parked on Jewel St., it ought to be removed.
  • West Park Avenue New Haven, CT - Edgewood
From Elm Street to Whalley on West Park Avenue, speeding is a problem. Traffic circles and speed bumps have been added to the south end of the street (from Elm to Edgewood) and seem to work well, but speeding is still an issue on the North end and is dangerous. This street is frequently used as a cut-through, and speed bumps would reduce not only the traffic but increase safety.
  • 577 Winthrop Ave New Haven, Connecticut - Beaver Hills
Doesn't seem like they have bulk trash scheduled. Trash has been laying in front of house for over week. Now its spilling off the sidewalk and onto street.
  • 377 Ellsworth Ave New Haven, Connecticut - Beaver Hills
When is something going to be done about the superhighway that we call Ellsworth Ave? I've complained about this before. It's extremely dangerous to enter from a lane. I'm ready to move, and so are some others, if nothing is done.
  • 22-32 Blake Street New Haven, CT - Beaver Hills
Pedestrians crossing Blake Street on Whalley Avenue are taking their lives into their hands. Because of the angle Blake takes from Whalley the walking distance is great and cars traveling northwest on Whalley turn into Blake at high speed. Drivers rarely cede right of way to pedestrians. People I know won't cross Blake there at all preferring to detour. This intersection is ripe for traffic calming.

  • 471whalley Ave New Haven, CT 06511 - Edgewood
The residents at 473 Whalley Ave, (in back of Carriage HillCondo's) are noisy, they park all over the parking lot for residents of 471 Whalley, loud music, young people smoking drugs back here. pit bull out of control. The police NEVER come back here, not even for a routinue drive..DISGUSTING....I am sick of it.
the alderman candidates have been back here but as soon as the election is over so will be their visit...this city has gone to the dumps
  • Ella T Grasso Blvd & Goffe Ter New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Beaver Hills
Furniture on the tree line South West corner of Ella T. Grasso where it meets Goffe Terrace. There is also a sale being conducted at that location on every weekend.. It's a business not a one off tag sale.
  • 232 Ellsworth Ave New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Edgewood
I am in my 6th year at 232 Ellsworth Ave. Recently, I called the building manager, saying that there were recent disruptions at all hours had changed the buildings from the family atmosphere to a dangerous one. She said Pike cannot control tenants. Over the past weekend, it was necessary to call the police, which did not end the threatening behavior of the tenant, including att4empted assault. I texted the manager in detail of this, but received no reply.
