Construction for the new mixed use building on Howe and Chapel begins construction before the noise ordinance's guidelines- I've called the police three times. Bordered by at least three apartment buildings, the noise is particularly excessive for residents attempting to maintain a normal sleep schedule. For instance, yesterday I was woken by the shaking of my entire apartment. For the level of noise emitted, this schedule will not do for a residential area.

266 Edgewood Avenue New Haven, CT - Dwight
Some resident of 266 Edgewood Avenue is regularly chaining a dog in the cakyard. My understanding is that this is illegal, not to mention inhumane.

20 Platt New Haven, CT - Dwight
Highly suspicious activity at 20 Platt Street noted by this watcher and other neighbors. Observed money changing hands at 11:00 AM on May 19. Front steps are usually occupied by a group of African American males between 3:00 and 5:00PM daily. Deals are done away from the street along the left side of the house.

    From the NHPD report, 3/16/10:

Two people were robbed on their front porch by an armed cyclist. At 9:28 p.m. on Monday, a man in a black ski mask on a blue and gold mountain bike rolled up on a porch at 167 Edgewood Ave. He asked the two people sitting on the porch for drugs. When they said no, he pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun, pointed it at the victims and said, “Give me what you got.” The two people handed over a purple iPod, a black Sidekick cell phone, and $1.50 in change. The robber rode off west on Edgewood.

Because the bike route takes a left turn at this intersection, the current sharrow configuration appears to encourage bike riders to attempt to turn left from the right-hand lane, which is dangerous and illegal. Please add a sharrow in the left-hand lane in order to encourage proper roadway positioning. Thanks!

Mattresses have been dumped at the blocked-off entrance to the Park. Considering the fact that free bulk pickup is not provided by the City of New Haven, it's not surprising that this takes place. Illegal mattress dumping happens frequently in this area.
  • 1447 Chapel St. New Haven, CT - Dwight
This police car was parked in front of a fire hydrant on chapel St. All over town, police officers are speeding, running red lights and otherwise acting like they're above the law. THEY AREN'T. If a fire had occurred, this squad car would have been no less of a problem than anyone else's car just like a speeding cop car can kill just the same as anyone's car.

  • Ella T Grasso Boulevard New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Edgewood
    Police were called.
  • Elm Street New Haven, CT - Dwight
A used hypodermic needle is found in the street in front of Fellowship Place at Elm and Dwight. Another sign of drug activity in this area.
  • 219-231 Park St New Haven, CT - Dwight
Drivers speed down Park and do not stop for or yield to pedestrians trying to cross at this crosswalk. I suspect the drivers are driving above the speed limit as well. It is very dangerous. The city should install a sign indicating that traffic must yield to pedestrians--as in the attached photo.
  • Elm Street At University Place New Haven, CT - Dwight
A beige Honda Sonata (Tag # 447ZNY) is illegally parked at the corner of Elm and University Place (across from Garden St). For the past few days, the car alarm has been going off every 15 minutes or so. The issue began on Monday 12/30. This includes early in the morning and late at night. The car must be removed or fixed and moved to a legal parking spot.
