  • Signs Archived
438 Whitney Ave New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Prospect Hill
This Saturday I removed SEVEN advertising signs (all for a supposedly cheap TV, phone, and Internet service provider) from utility poles at 400 Whitney Avenue, 438 Whitney, 443 Whitney, 450 Whitney (Bethesda Lutheran Church), 611 Whitney, and two other locations on Whitney. The signs were all posted in violation of New Haven regulations. It would be helpful if Public Works or the Police Department would call the phone number on these signs, 860-869-0284, and tell the company that signs are not allowed to be posted on utility poles. Perhaps the advertiser will get the message. The signs are visual clutter.

We have had mice in our home for 1.5 years. Pike International, the management company, has been made aware of this continuously.
No action has been taken. Multiple requests have gone ignored. There are now mice in the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. Please help.
  • 900 Chapel Street New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green
Very strong odor inside the building, many residents believe it is a gas leak, no one appears to be responding
  • 2-90 Sheffield Ave New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Prospect Hill

I am in wheel chair and I catch public transportation. Today, when I was trying to get on the bus, there was too much snow on the curb and the handicap access ramps on the curbs for the bus to be able to lower the handicap accessible ramp, for to be able to mount with my wheel chair. When the driver tried to lower the ramp, because of the snow, there was a gap of about an inch or so. This is very unsafe for me, as well as other citizens. Please address this immediately. My concern today was at the bus stop I was at; however, this is happening all over the city. There has to be a better and safer system, to protect all the city's citizens, in times of inclement weather.

Also, when it rains the water pulls at the end of the parking lot and drains into the bus stop. When the temperature is at freezing levels, this area turns into an ice rink. If I go over the curb to reach the bus, I can lose control of my wheel chair and slide directly into oncoming traffic.

  • 415 Orange Street New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown
About 7:45 p.m. last night another pair of cars, yet again, fall victim to the green light on Trumbull and left turn arrow from I-91—stopping just short of the handicap ramp at the southeast corner of the intersection. No one was hurt only the cars were severely damaged.
This is the classic case of an accident waiting to happen.
Cannot we think our way out of this on-going situation and do something with the timing of the lights or put speed bumps on Trumbull Street (as recommended by the officer out there today)?
  • Woodland Street New Haven, Connecticut - Dixwell
A number of residents have noticed that there is an increase in street drug sales on Woodland Street. Cars pull up and wait, and different people, usually on foot or bicycle, go up to them and complete the sale. We don't call the police, because there's not much they can do after the fact, but over the long term we hope they can do something.
  • See Click Fix New Haven, CT - Downtown
Does anybody else think that there should be a desperate section on SCF for "junk on sidewalk" posts? It just seems to me that there are too many of these and they do little to solve the issue. New Haven isn't overflowing with debris, but you would think otherwise reading through on a daily basis.
  • 2-14 Church Street New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green
On Church St in the direction of the Green and right in front of the KofC Building, cars constantly pull over into the bike lane and stand, I guess in order to pick somebody up. This is a very busy road with lots of bike commuter traffic as well. When I swerve into traffic because of the car parked in the bike lane, several lanes of traffic are potentially impacted and I feel very vulnerable. I take this bike lane every day ~6, and I guess there is a car in the lane 50% of the time. This would be a great place to plan on ticketing violators!
  • Traffic/Road Safety Acknowledged
114 Foster Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
Crosswalk pedestrian signal needed at Foster and Eagle streets. There is a lot of stroller and dog traffic in this neighborhood, cars go too quickly down Foster, and with street parking on both sides of the street, it can be a challenge to see oncoming traffic. Something to slow or stop traffic to allow for safe street crossing is necessary. Thank you.
  • Lane shift Archived
Whalley Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Beaver Hills
Driving southeast on Whalley, the lanes shift at the light just before West Rock Ave. There are no markings on the pavement for guidance, so cars in the middle lane often shift to the left lane. I've been forced into oncoming traffic multiple times. Painting the lanes in the intersection would be extremely helpful.
  • 56 Hillhouse Ave New Haven 06511, United States - Prospect Hill
Where are the in-street pedestrian crossing signs?
I watched a pedestrian stuck trying to cross Sachem at Hillhouse. No cars would stop for her - I actually had to stop traffic with my bicycle!
As I was cycling home through East Rock I wondered...where are all the in-street pedestrian crossing signs?
    I don't see them anywhere.
As someone who remembers a time when they weren't allowed in New Haven, having the in-street pedestrian signs regularly, proactively installed is a small but important victory for all of us in the traffic safety community.
  • Fountain Street New Haven, Connecticut - Westville

I live on Fountain Street, a state road and commuter route for individuals coming to New Haven area. There are no public trash receptacles on the street, despite being a major bus route with heavy pedestrian traffic.

Is there any enforcement of littering laws in New Haven?

Are there plans to provide city maintained trash receptacles near bus stops?

This was waiting for me tonight when I got home, where the road meets my driveway. Not the most vile thing I've ever seen, but seriously, who throws a bag filled with half eaten Chinese takeout out of their car in a residential area? Or anywhere?

I find this highly annoying --both pedestrian and automobile litter. I feel like a character in Women in the Dunes.
