Notified About

  • 88-168 Canner St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
Concerned about the amount of speeding on Canner Street, specifically the stretch between Nicoll St. and Whitney Ave. Many people use the street as an alternative to Willow and/or Cold Spring, and I have been nearly hit at least once. Also, the Yale Shuttle speeds, and is too wide for the street. I see NHPD using Canner street very frequently, and am concerned that they too have gotten caught up in the frenzy.
Please slow down if you're cutting through on Canner! Sightlines are a pain around here, too. Kids are tough to spot with all the parked cars.
  • 155 Cedar Hill Ave New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Cedar Hill
Incessant noise, unsafe riding, and street racing on dirt bikes Cedar Hill Avenue.
  • English Dr New Haven, CT 00 - East Rock

A stop sign is needed at this three-way intersection to keep traffic going at a reasonable speed - especially those cars heading west and making a left turn on Orange. Friends of East Rock Park is working with the city to try and make this happen.

  • Lawrence Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
Many cars remained parked on the odd side of the street last night and no one appears to have been ticketed or towed. Having the street adequately plowed would open up parking for days to come and this is very difficult when the street is all parked up. Just wondering if there are plans to enforce the ban in the future.
  • Orange Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
Killer school bus (No. 848) tailgated me on Orange St. (bet. Hall of Records and Corner Deli) this AM. Driver was threatening and blew horn. Slowed the car to protect me and pedestrians. Who runs these nuts?
  • 862 Orange St. New Haven Ct - East Rock
  • 126 Mitchell Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
There is something wrong with the way voting is organized at Wilbur Cross. If you live on a street that begins with the letter A-L in ward 10, you have to wait in line to vote for 20-40 minutes longer than if you live on a street with the letter between M-Z, or you live on any street in ward 9, due to the difference in the number of people waiting in each of the lines.
  • 161 Foster St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
The red light here has recently (past couple weeks maybe?) been on the wrong cycle -- as if there was a pedestrian walk signal on this light, which there's not. Both sides of light have been going red and waiting for ~10 secs extra.
  • 786 Orange St New Haven, CT 06511 - East Rock
3 kids lurking in backyard. 2 on bikes. Were followed by resident but could not tell him why they were in his backyard.
happened at 3 PM (I accidentally wrote AM)
  • Whitney & Cold Spring New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
The pedestrian crossing of Cold Spring on Whitney is very dangerous, with aggressive traffic turning in all directions. A simple step that can be taken to start addressing this issue is repainting the crosswalk lines, which have worn away to almost nothing.

For some reason I don't quite understand, drivers on English drive routinely drive at speeds that are unsafe for this narrow, winding road. While I'd like to believe that people are smart enough to gauge for themselves safe travel speeds based on the conditions at hand, recent events seem to indicate that some drivers will drive what they believe to be the speed limit regardless of road conditions, even to the point of losing control of their vehicles.

    Recent event:

If drivers continue to demonstrate an inability to judge for themselves safe speeds on this road, I suggest that the engineers determine safe speeds for them and communicate this information using highway warning signs from the Manual of Universal Traffic Control Devices.

I recommend a W1-5 (Winding Road Warning Sign) shown here:
    http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/htm/2003r1r2/part2/fig2c-01_longdesc.htm
Combined with a W13-1 (Advisory Speed Plaque) shown here:
    http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/htm/2003r1r2/part2/fig2c-05_longdesc.htm

According to the driver who lost control of her vehicle at this location, she lost control while traveling at "25 m.p.h." under dry road conditions. To me, this indicates that the W13-1 Advisory Speed Plaque should display a recommended speed substantially lower than "25 m.p.h." I recommend 15 m.p.h.

Considering the education department is 10MM in the hole perhaps they should turn off exterior lights during the day...
