Notified About

  • Car Break Ins Archived
691 Orange Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
There have been at least three car break ins in the past week at the corner of Orange St. and Lawrence. I have found them in the mornings. If I have seen three, there have probably been more.
  • speeding cars Acknowledged
216 Willow St New Haven, CT 06511 - East Rock
Chronic speeding, cars and trucks ignoring "no turn on red sign", cars ignoring pedestrians in crosswalk, cars and trucks running red lights, cars and trucks harassing bicyclists and cars blasting stereos. 24 hours a day.
  • 41 Cold Spring St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
Stupid graffiti is written with silver pen on the jungle gym at East Rock Park. It's graphic as @#$% and I'm not a prude myself but I can easily imagine that other parents will not be thrilled to see this, either; and frankly I wouldn't want to have to explain some of this crap to a five year old.... is this something the Parks Dept. will clean up or do citizens need to figure out a way to remove it?
  • Whitney Ave. And Willow New Haven, CT - East Rock

    Hi,

I am writing to express my concern for pedestrian safety at this intersection. There are no pedestrian right-of-way crossing lights. A barely visible sign (only present on northbound Whitney Ave.) says that pedestrians cross with green light.

This evening I was almost struck by a car making a turn onto Willow St. as I was crossing. The car had to slam on its brakes and swerve--only missing me by a foot or so.

Vehicles drive much higher than the speed limit on Whitney Ave. In addition, cars on Willow St. tend to stop past the white line denoting the pedestrian crossway (though I see a dozen cars not stop at all on a daily basis).

This intersection is dangerous and needs to have a pedestrian crosswalk button or a law enforcement officer handing out red-light violations.

    Thank you for your time,
    Justin Tang

  • Willow And Nicoll St New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
The crosswalk at Willow and Nicoll St is completely faded away. Crossing Willow St has become a major hazard. This is a very busy crosswalk in front of the Shell Station and is close to both East Rock and Wilbour Cross Schools
  • 829 Orange Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
Tow trucks contracted by the city to clear away cars for street sweeping consistently disregard stop signs, don't stop for pedestrians in crosswalks and speed through residential streets. Just because they are helping the city enforce parking laws shouldn't mean they get to break every other traffic law and put the public in danger.
  • 24 Canner Street New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
This house on the lower part of Canner St is being abandoned for over a decade it is boarded-up. All kind of trash is accumulating in front of the house. How is the turn of a broken TV with glass all over the sidewalk. Definitely a safety issue. Again where is LCI? Yes they will probably help removing the trash but they will not fix the problem. They should force the owner to either sell the house or rent it.
  • 569 Whitney Ave New Haven Connecticut - East Rock

My locked car was broken into on the night of 10/15/2017. At this time, an adjacent car was broken into and stolen: ~2015 Orange Hyundai Accent, NC plates.

Both cars were fully locked before we left them. As there was no damage to my car, we believe the thieves gained access to our cars' keyless entry systems.

  • Lawrence Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
Many cars remained parked on the odd side of the street last night and no one appears to have been ticketed or towed. Having the street adequately plowed would open up parking for days to come and this is very difficult when the street is all parked up. Just wondering if there are plans to enforce the ban in the future.
  • 209 Willow Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
This is the state of driving behavior and traffic enforcement in New Haven:
It is the Wild West! I was commuting in this morning heading south on Orange Street. At the busy Willow Street intersection, two cars ran the red light heading west on Willow Street. I then noticed that there were TWO NHPD cruisers stopped at the light on Orange Street heading north. Neither one of them pulled over either red light runner. (And neither officer appeared to be on another emergency call as they both drove away, lights off, with traffic when the light turned green.)
This summarizes where we've come to with traffic safety and traffic enforcement in New Haven.
This is not normal. We have accepted the normalization of this behavior: both the incredible number of drivers running red lights and stop signs or talking/texting on their phones while driving, AND the frequent lack of traffic enforcement by the NHPD.
This does not happen everywhere in the state. This does not happen everywhere in the country.
What can we do to change the cycle?
  • Orange Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
Killer school bus (No. 848) tailgated me on Orange St. (bet. Hall of Records and Corner Deli) this AM. Driver was threatening and blew horn. Slowed the car to protect me and pedestrians. Who runs these nuts?
  • 155 Cedar Hill Ave New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Cedar Hill
Incessant noise, unsafe riding, and street racing on dirt bikes Cedar Hill Avenue.
