  • Whitney Ave New Haven, CT - East Rock
There's a big rush of bicycling commuters to headed to Yale every weekday a.m., and they ride on Whitney Ave sidewalk instead of the street. I understand why they are illegally walking on the sidewalk, but they don't even slow down or move out of the way for pedestrians! I walk my dog in the morning during the bicycle rush, and I'm sick of this discourteous and illegal behavior. I wouldn't mind if they would at least let me and my dog walk in comfort and not be driven off the sidewalk by them.

147 Willow St New Haven, CT 06511 - East Rock
This place was robbed again last night and a customer and clerk were shot. This is approximately the 90th time this gas station has been robbed (not exagerating). Is there any way for the city to step in and control the hours of operation here? Unfotunately as convenient as this location is for myself and others, it brings in the completely wrong element late at night.
  • 163-205 Canner St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
Although there are signs along the road, the new speed humps along Canner need painting so they can be seen. Currently they are completely camouflaged.

WHAT'S HAPPENED TO THE PLAN TO CLEAR THE SNOW FROM THE ODD NUMBERED SIDE OF THE STREETS? WE'VE BEEN PARKING ON THE EVEN SIDE SINCE WEDNESDAY NIGHT. IT'S NOW SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND THE STREETS IN EAST ROCK HAVE NOT SEEN ANY PLOWS, PAYLOADERS OR DUMP TRUCKS. CAN WE GET AN UPDATE FROM THE CITY? ARE WE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK, AFTER PRESIDENT'S DAY, TO SEE ANY IMPROVEMENT ON THE NARROW RIBBON OF PLOWED STREET WE HAVE HERE ON LINDEN STREET (AND MANY OTHERS)?

The so-called tag and tow on trash day? Why worry about leaving my car on the odd side of the street for over a week? The city, Dougie and the rest are full of hot air.

Who cares if I have contributed to making Cold Spring a virtual one way street?

I think I'l just wait for the thaw this weekend and then MAYBE move my car. Until then, I laugh at your threat of towing. Ha Ha!*

*What the owner of the white car parked on the ODD side of the street between Whitney and Everitt must be thinking.

  • 253 Lawrence St. New Haven, CT - East Rock
253 Lawrence Street is owned by Frank Carrano, an absentee landlord in Florida who has been deemed to be a slumlord by his tenants. He has broken his contracts with some of them, and threatened to evict them if they tried to enforce it. Also, there was a leak which a plumber initially traced to a toilet, and he waited for months afterwards while it soaked the walls and ceilings of those below them before he hired someone to find the pipe buried in the wall. After the pipe was fixed, he complained about expenses and couldn't find someone cheap enough to fully fix all the damage.

Tow trucks contracted by the city to clear away cars for street sweeping consistently disregard stop signs, don't stop for pedestrians in crosswalks and speed through residential streets. Just because they are helping the city enforce parking laws shouldn't mean they get to break every other traffic law and put the public in danger.
  • Willow And Nicoll St New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
The crosswalk at Willow and Nicoll St is completely faded away. Crossing Willow St has become a major hazard. This is a very busy crosswalk in front of the Shell Station and is close to both East Rock and Wilbour Cross Schools

Thanks to the cat people, who let their felines roam, I now have some orphaned baby house wrens in my yard. These birds, through no fault of there own, are now going to die without their parent to feed them. It's not cute to have your cat kill birds, snakes, etc. anymore than it would be cute if my dog were to roam around killing cats. Please keep your cats indoors, where they won't be getting run over by cars or killing birds. Wildlife have a hard enough time surviving without being slaughtered for your pet's entertainment.

Why isn't more being done to address the significant increase in crime to East Rock. My tax assessment jumped considerably and so did the crime in the neighborhood with so many posts about cars and houses being broken jnto. What is the City doing to address this other than throw another report on the pile? We need an action plan!
  • Whitney Ave. And Willow New Haven, CT - East Rock

    Hi,

I am writing to express my concern for pedestrian safety at this intersection. There are no pedestrian right-of-way crossing lights. A barely visible sign (only present on northbound Whitney Ave.) says that pedestrians cross with green light.

This evening I was almost struck by a car making a turn onto Willow St. as I was crossing. The car had to slam on its brakes and swerve--only missing me by a foot or so.

Vehicles drive much higher than the speed limit on Whitney Ave. In addition, cars on Willow St. tend to stop past the white line denoting the pedestrian crossway (though I see a dozen cars not stop at all on a daily basis).

This intersection is dangerous and needs to have a pedestrian crosswalk button or a law enforcement officer handing out red-light violations.

    Thank you for your time,
    Justin Tang

Many residents have complained about vehicles not obeying this stop sign (as well as Cold Spring and Everit Street's). Please click "I want this fixed too" to bring more attention to the issue.
