Notified About

  • 126 Mitchell Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
There is something wrong with the way voting is organized at Wilbur Cross. If you live on a street that begins with the letter A-L in ward 10, you have to wait in line to vote for 20-40 minutes longer than if you live on a street with the letter between M-Z, or you live on any street in ward 9, due to the difference in the number of people waiting in each of the lines.
  • English Dr New Haven, CT - East Rock

For some reason I don't quite understand, drivers on English drive routinely drive at speeds that are unsafe for this narrow, winding road. While I'd like to believe that people are smart enough to gauge for themselves safe travel speeds based on the conditions at hand, recent events seem to indicate that some drivers will drive what they believe to be the speed limit regardless of road conditions, even to the point of losing control of their vehicles.

    Recent event:

If drivers continue to demonstrate an inability to judge for themselves safe speeds on this road, I suggest that the engineers determine safe speeds for them and communicate this information using highway warning signs from the Manual of Universal Traffic Control Devices.

I recommend a W1-5 (Winding Road Warning Sign) shown here:
    http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/htm/2003r1r2/part2/fig2c-01_longdesc.htm
Combined with a W13-1 (Advisory Speed Plaque) shown here:
    http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/htm/2003r1r2/part2/fig2c-05_longdesc.htm

According to the driver who lost control of her vehicle at this location, she lost control while traveling at "25 m.p.h." under dry road conditions. To me, this indicates that the W13-1 Advisory Speed Plaque should display a recommended speed substantially lower than "25 m.p.h." I recommend 15 m.p.h.

  • 146 Cottage Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
We have seen people climbing up to the second floor window to get in because he said his landlord threw him out and he needed to get his stuff. the cellar windows on street level are out and we see people squeezing in and out of them. This has been going on at least since the springtime. We have seen lots and lots of people constantly going in and out. The grass is uncut, currently they're digging up something in the back yard. We own the building next door, 140 cottage, we rent to Yale people and they are all complaining.
  • 185 Cold Spring St. New Haven, CT - East Rock
We wonder when at least one side of Cold Spring St. will be plowed to the curb? The church has no parking lot, only street parking. The building is not only used on Sunday morning, but every night of the week by many 12 step and community groups who now have no access.
  • 161 Foster St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
The red light here has recently (past couple weeks maybe?) been on the wrong cycle -- as if there was a pedestrian walk signal on this light, which there's not. Both sides of light have been going red and waiting for ~10 secs extra.
  • 181 Mitchell Dr New Haven 06511, United States - East Rock
Considering the education department is 10MM in the hole perhaps they should turn off exterior lights during the day...
  • English Drive New Haven, CT - Cedar Hill

There were (at least) two motor bikes using mountain bike/jogging trails on East Rock. The image attached is of two men riding down the red trail that lets out at the intersection of English Dr., Rock, and View St.

Please re-categorize this report as necessary.

  • 875 Orange St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - East Rock
This car has been parked in front of a hydrant for at least 2 full days now. This selfish person has put the safety of local residents in jeopardy. There are plenty of lawful parking spots.
  • 265 Willow St. New Haven, CT - East Rock
VW bug Maryland license 988 BGB has been parked and never shoveled all winter. It is covered in snow from every storm. When one walks by one can see that its passenger window facing the street is open. Snow going in car. Abandoned auto?
  • 188 Willow St. New Haven, CT - East Rock

All the time at this intersection...

Out of state plates... Using No Standing zones as personal parking spaces.

City... If you respond to this in less than 48 hours, you might get to make a few bucks from the ticket or tow.

  • There apparently used to be a crosswalk at Nicoll and Mitchell, but it has faded almost completely out of existence. How are people from East Rock supposed to access the playing fields or the school? By jaywalking? The crosswalks should be restored and pedestrian signage deployed in the street, like most other towns in the Northeast have. That would begin to bring the speeds down on this street, which is posted at 25mph but in reality has traffic speeds of 35-40 -- especially dangerous considering the limited visibility around some of the corners.
