    Manhole/Street Drain Issue/Potholes-Dear Owen,

I hope that you are doing fine.

I am a Cambridge City resident, and have been living at 30 Cambridgepark Drive for over three years now. I want to draw your attention to the rather horrendous condition of the roads around Alewife Station, in particular to Cambridgepark Drive and Steel Place, both of which are generally in worse shape than roads in many developing countries.

Both roads show significant pavement damage, including deep potholes, rutting and general, widespread, surface cracking. I am sure that you are well aware of the significant surge in commercial and residential use in the area, with the commissioning of multiple large, multi-family apartment buildings as well as office/lab buildings since 2013. Traffic in the area has proportionately surged and the road condition has worsened.

I have personally witnessed multiple accidents, minor and not so minor, occur as motorists try to avoid potholes, as well as personally experienced damage to my vehicle after having the misfortune of driving into a particularly deep one a few weeks ago. Poor drainage on the roads also typically results in many an unfortunate pedestrian getting soaked head to toe by passing vehicles. It's happened to me and many of our neighbors, more than once.

Needless to say, the traffic situation in the area ranges from unpleasant to downright hazardous and I hope that given the fact that Alewife is the last remaining growth area in the city, now that East Cambridge has been pretty much built out and that thousands of residents and workers now frequent it, the Public Works Department will make it a priority to completely repair the pavement - by milling and repaving the roads in question. I have noticed a few spot repairs, effected by shoveling some asphalt into the worst potholes, but this really serves little purpose given the volume of traffic and the vagaries of the New England weather.

Look forward to speedy action in this regard.

    Thanks in advance.

    Warm Regards,

    Ajay Prasad

No bike racks in sight along the stretch of 125 Cambridgepark Drive. Would be really useful to have some here, esp with the separated bike lane present and more businesses coming in.

I should mention that there are bike racks behind buildings like 125 Cambridgepark, but for visitors who don't regularly come here, they may not realize it. A few racks on the wide sidewalk out front would be visible and more welcoming.

Hello. On this forum about two weeks ago, a similar complaint was made about a tent on the alewife reservation trail from alewife to Belmont. It was at that time that officials promised to take care of this and was planned that a group would check this out on Wednesday’s. This either has not been done or very little been done since now there are multiple tents in the same area and more trash littering the trail near it. In addition, there is fencing across from it (behind 87 Cambridgepark Drive) that has been damaged as well as the entire (green) fence is full of graffiti. The wooded area around the tents continue to have more and more branches ripped from trees. The unfortunate people in these tents are running a extremely high fire risk to themselves and especially other innocent citizens in the area. Please work on a solution. So far is it growing bigger by the day. Thanks.

On the bridge leading to alewife near the summer shack, the side walk has several massive potholes / missing pavement that makes it very dangerous to ride a bike over the bridge toward alewife.

There’s an unmarked city truck, license plate M 1504 that’s been sitting in the bike lane all morning.

Construction vehicles are parked in the road, bring this down to one lane and backing up traffic. It’s also impassible for bikes.

Construction vehicles parked in the bike lane. Shocked!

Over the past few evenings around 5:30PM - 6:30PM, the traffic around the alewife T stop on Steel road / Cambridge Park drive is at a standstill. There are dozens of cars running red lights and blocking the box making it that no cars can leave or get into the area. I ask the city to please start monitoring this intersection as the traffic is out of control. We can not continue to build more apartments on cambridge park drive if the traffic situation is not resolved. It is not fair to the local residents.

Bike lanes (and crosswalks!) were never repainted in front of 35 cambridgepark following the resurfacing, so now there's cars parked there every day.

It is illegal to put snow from private property into the street, yet that is what happens each time it snows at this property. Please fine them for illegally dumping snow into street.

Not sure if this is trash overflowing from the nearby bins, but there's quite a bit of trash sitting in water near the busses. I don't know if this is the responsiblity of the mbta or the city, but its on what would be an otherwise nice path to Davis from alewife station.
