Tree Stump Archived4 Beckford St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of SalemThis 15 foot stump of a maple tree has been left standing for years because a telephone guy wire was connected to it. The cable was released this summer when all of the poles on the street were re-worked. The tree has started to grow fungus as seen in the photo. Please take the stump down this winter 2019. Thank you.

Other - City Issues Archived6 Pope Street Proctor'S Ledge Salem, Massachusetts - City of SalemProctor's Ledge is a mess. It was promised to be kept well groomed, but half of the trees and shrubs are dead and it is inundated with weeds to the point it can't be distinguished where the weeds end and the shrubs begin. It is like that on Proctor St. as well. What a shame for relatives of ancestors. WHEN new trees and shrubs are planted, they will need to be kept up and watered.

Illegal Dumping Archived75 Willson Street Salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
I am concerned about the regular, INTENTIONAL feeding of junk food to wildlife that has been going on for years in the driveway of Olde Salem Greens Golf Course. I have reported this issue to Park & Recreation and to Golf Course staff, to no avail. Today's "offering" is a 15 foot long swath of bread, crackers or chips, pink heart candy, popcorn, and chocolate bars.
The problem with leaving this food out is multifold.
1) It is unsightly litter.
2) It is an unnatural and unhealthful diet for wildlife. Feeding the wrong diet to deer can kill them. Feeding bread to waterfowl causes deadly angel wing disease.
3) It attracts and creates nuisance animals - rats, raccoons, coyotes. It is well-known that feeding coyotes habituates them to people, leading to potentially dangerous interactions between coyotes and pets or even people.
4) This is a popular dog-walking spot, and this food is unhealthful and potentially toxic to dogs.Would you please speak with the nice gentleman who I believe lives across the street and I believe is the person feeding wildlife on city property, and ask him to stop. Thank you.

Other - City Issues Archived35 Flint Street #304 Salem, Massachusetts - City of SalemThe newly paved sections of Flint St do not dovetail smoothly into previously existing pavement, especially at the intersections. There is a serious crack and ridge at intersections of Flint with Bridge, Federal and Essex Streets. The one at Essex and Flint is particularly bad, and will cause damage to car tires and rims as it gets worse. I had assumed the problem would be rectified by now, but nothing has happened, so I'm thinking you're not aware of the problem.

Other - City Issues Archived19 Flint St Salem, Massachusetts - City of SalemSidewalk trees are dying! Five trees on Flint St between Essex and Warren appear to be infected with a fungus. Their leaves turn brown and fall off. An additional six or seven trees on Essex (heading toward Highland Ave) and Warren are also affected. Is there a remedy?

Other - City Issues ArchivedLinden Street Salem, Massachusetts - City of SalemWith students now back at SSU, it has become apparent that there are a number of landlords renting apartments to more than the allowable number of tenants. And this past weekend, there were several large and loud alcohol-fueled parties resulting in disruptive crowds and lots of litter. At one location on Linden Street on Saturday at 11pm, there were approximately 40 drunk students acting in an antisocial manner. We know that the police need to be called when this happens. Can you please advise us on what other steps we should take to see longer-term solutions to this growing problem and greater accountability for landlords engaged in illegal renting? Also, is there a greater role that the SSU Police Department could play in responding to student parties held off campus and in holding SSU students accountable? We would appreciate your guidance.

Other - City Issues mayors office Archived95 Washington St Salem, Massachusetts - City of SalemRecently Salem announced free meals at all schools. Why? Many families are more than able to either send food or pay for their child's food at school. Taxes keep going up, we are also spending a large amount of money on parks even though very few people use them and maintenance is non existent. The new park on New Derby is crazy. No parking and no parent should want their child to ride a bike to that location. Who is paying for all this?

Traffic Signals OpenEssex St & North St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of SalemThe city just changed the pedestrian crossing at this intersection so cars get a green light at the same time pedestrians get a walk signal.
This is very dangerous as this is a very busy intersection with cars speeding down Essex Street to catch the green light. Please change it back to where pedestrians get a dedicated walk signal.
You can't have pedestrians (a lot of kids cross here) trying to compete with cars. Again its crazy having the walk signal and the green light for cars at the same time.
