Many people have requested information on repairs to Highland Ave and Boston St. The answer is always its been assigned. Today a new sidewalk is being put down in front of NSMC. The condition of the road creates a clear danger to people on the sidewalk so why are we not fixing the roads? It would be really nice if someone can answer this with an intelligent response with a timeline. Please. The section in question is the city's and has been in horrendous condition for over 5 years. If your answer is we are waiting on the state then please give updates on that process. I pay taxes to the city and state so provide some details.
6 Pope Street Proctor'S Ledge Salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
Proctor's Ledge is a mess. It was promised to be kept well groomed, but half of the trees and shrubs are dead and it is inundated with weeds to the point it can't be distinguished where the weeds end and the shrubs begin. It is like that on Proctor St. as well. What a shame for relatives of ancestors. WHEN new trees and shrubs are planted, they will need to be kept up and watered.
This busy street has just one official crosswalk on this stretch of road, and the lines are very faint! It hasn't been painted in years. People cross here all the time to get to the common (including many children and dogs) and drivers whiz by very quickly. Please please please repaint the lines, and maybe add more for visibility (like the green paint that's in other crosswalks). Signage would also help.
Sidewalk trees are dying! Five trees on Flint St between Essex and Warren appear to be infected with a fungus. Their leaves turn brown and fall off. An additional six or seven trees on Essex (heading toward Highland Ave) and Warren are also affected. Is there a remedy?
There's tons of broken glass strewn all over Collins Cove beach. Kids are going to get hurt in the sand. Is there a plan for the city to help with pick up? We're doing what we can. I don't want to see anyone get hurt.
Recently Salem announced free meals at all schools. Why? Many families are more than able to either send food or pay for their child's food at school. Taxes keep going up, we are also spending a large amount of money on parks even though very few people use them and maintenance is non existent. The new park on New Derby is crazy. No parking and no parent should want their child to ride a bike to that location. Who is paying for all this?
The newly paved sections of Flint St do not dovetail smoothly into previously existing pavement, especially at the intersections. There is a serious crack and ridge at intersections of Flint with Bridge, Federal and Essex Streets. The one at Essex and Flint is particularly bad, and will cause damage to car tires and rims as it gets worse. I had assumed the problem would be rectified by now, but nothing has happened, so I'm thinking you're not aware of the problem.
The sidewalk is blocked with 5 or 6 large potted flowers. It is illegal to block a sidewalk or park on a sidewalk. I dont know how they get away with it. Corner of butler st halfway up rawlins. If you park there they leave notes on your car.
