Recent road modifications have placed Ped Crossing Lights in the middle of the sidewalks in several locations on New Britain Ave in Elmwood with insufficent space for safe passage by ADA users. Sidewalk cross slopes exceed the ADA recommendations of <3%, insufficient landings at the top of curb ramps, signals obstruct ramps, ramps on apex of corners do not provide safe landing on the street due to curb radius. Numerous deficiencies noted from Mayflower to Newington Rd on New Britain Avenue. Poor design and construction elements.
I live on Prospect St. and daily travel down it to exit 44 on 84 W. The problem I am having is the intersection of Prospect St. and West Blvd. The middle of the intersection is not marked. There’s two lights back to back there and many people seem to become confused as to whether it is one lane or two. At the first light traveling down Prospect from Farmington Ave. there is room for another car to pull up aside and turn right. However, many people use this opportunity to instead try and create a second lane going straight. Something really needs to be done about this intersection and its marking. I was almost driven off the road because of a car trying to create a second lane and realizing too late that if you continue going straight, it is only one lane. Can anything be done about this? Thank you very much for your time.
Really should enforce a parking ban... on Burr Street with neither side fully plowed, people are parking... much over the 2 hour limit (because it is never enforced), in fact illegally overnight!...People and visitors, such as restaurant and movie goers and BBS employees, are really just too cheap/lazy to park in the lots/garages, and use the street as a dumping ground... I could barely get out/in of a driveway...I saw cars and trucks nearly sideswipe parked cars and each other trying to navigate the street.... Much too dangerous to allow parking... and it is not needed!
Farmington Ave. between Trout Brook and Whiting Lane has no white lines on the side of the road. Many people pass on the right or think there is a right and left lane. The city needs to paint a solid white line to shows its only one lane. If police watched from a side street in 5 minutes they would see many cars passing on the right or driving along the curb thinking it is the right lane.
