I’m solicited 3 times at least on any normal day. Walking to my car, heading to an appointment, out jogging and always while I’m driving. Lark, Madison, Washington, Henry Johnson, Empire State Plaza, Swan St and in front of the Capital Building. Something needs to be done before a scared driver runs a light to avoid them, or worse. It’s embarrassing for a proud city - especially to visitors. Is there a city plan to address this?
  • Morris Street At Sefcu Albany, New York - Park South
For six months, the residents of this area have asked the city to put a stop to AMC valets monopolizing residential parking on both sides of Morris, illegally parking on alternate parking days so we don't get street sweeping, and illegally and dangerously double parking their vehicles (blocking traffic flow) rather than use the parking garage as AMC leaderdhip promised the neighborhood. No one from the city will answer. Why is this allowed and why is no one giving us the courtesy of a response. If we were a higher income street this would have been stopped a long time ago.

Everytime I'm in Washington Park with my child, there are motorbikes and other vehicles driving and parking freely on pedestrian-only paths and on the grass. It was the same today. Kids are running to the ice cream truck when motorbikes speed right in front of them. If I can see it daily, why can't the police? Where is strict and consistent enforcement? The city has received more than enough warning to be liable when someone is hurt or worse.

Washington Park Road is not supposed to be used my ANY commercial vehicles. there Used to be signs posted at the entrances of the park. Every single day there are beer trucks, busses -cdta and school busses, USPS haulers, and 18 wheelers traveling through the park. signs for non commercial use and enforcement need to be put BACK in place. it would also be nice if speed limit signs could be replaced as well. 20 mph signs have been removed, damaged, etc and never put back.

This is the Lionheart after 1:30 AM this morning (Sat/Sun). It's more than 2.5 hours past patio closing time and it's filled with loud people and music, as is the sidewalk. Between Lark Tavern and the Lionheart, this is a daily occurrence. Why are they allowed to be open until 4:00 AM when they do not respect or adhere to the ordinance? Why should the Lark Tavern or the Lionheart be motivated to close their patios at 11:00 PM when they can see the other establishment violates the ordinance and the police do nothing and there are not consequences or tickets and fines? Who is patrolling the area, as we've been told APD is doing at night, and why are they ignoring clear issues and violations?

There are people lighting off fireworks (loud ones) all night. Last night someone was lighting off M-80 type fireworks at 2 and 3 in the morning. I don't know how anyone is supposed to sleep and contribute to this neighborhood with hooliganism like that happening all hours. APD should be working to make this neighborhood a better place.

SOMETHING absolutely has to done about ATVs being driven through city streets at high speeds and disregarding traffic signals, etc. Around 7:45 tonight, a gang of 12 or more ATVs came blasting east on Madison Avenue with a number of them blasting right through the busy Lark/Madison/Delaware intersection. They were revving engines, doing wheelies, weaving in and out of a row of moving cars, speeding, and using both the east and westbound lanes. Some of these idiots (and that’s the politest word I can use for them) decided the sidewalk was theirs with several of them jumping the curbs and speeding down the sidewalk. One of them came within inches of a man walking down the odd side of the street -even hearing them coming gave him almost no time to get out of the way. And if I hadn’t already walked up my front steps seconds earlier, I probably would’ve have been hit and killed. An older person or someone with children or with mobility issues would not have been as fortunate as the young man and myself. I realize the police can’t risk a high speed chase with these ATV riders, but something HAS to be done. Someone will eventually be seriously hurt or killed because of these riders. I’ve heard them roaring through Park South, Hudson Park, and other adjacent neighborhoods all summer. I’ve seen one or two riders speed the wrong way on side streets. And there have been multiple complaints here on SeeClickFix this year. Calling the police after the fact doesn’t help - the gang that blasted down Madison tonight was long gone before I’d even turned my key in my door. But this problem needs to addressed before there is a tragedy. After tonight, enough is enough.

Lark Street At Lancaster Street Albany, New York - Center Square
The roadbed appears to have failed where it meets the granite curbing and belgian block crosswalk. Some vehicles swerve to miss this deep pothole, but others - especially emergency vehicles, trucks and buses - hit the potholes with a force that causes my house to shake 1/2 block to the west. Would it be possible to fill the potholes - at least temporarily - with crushed stone and/or place an electronic sign on Lark to urge and monitor reduced speed?
  • 98 Willett St Albany 12210, United States - Center Square

Last night we had fireworks going off in the neighborhood between 12 and 2 am. All very loud explosions. I called into APD around 1 and was given the same response that they’d send someone over. The fireworks continued. Now tonight they’ve been going off for the last half hour or so and I imagine they’ll continue for some time.

Calling noise complaints into APD hasn’t seemed to bear fruit (and it’s been happening since LAST summer) so I’ll continue to post them here in hopes that someone, somewhere in our city’s government will eventually care enough to step in.

  • 67 Chestnut St Albany 12210 United States - Center Square
I called the people listed on the sign and they said they do not have any apartments available at 67 Chestnut St. They also don’t seem to have apartments available now at 71 Chestnut either. Which means both of these signs are illegal and are basically just advertising for the company. They should be removed.

Do we need to call the media to receive the courtesy of a response from the city regarding the valet issue allowed to adversely affect an entire area with impunity for a long time now? Someone is buying a load of nonsense given it sounds like the Mayor's Office thinks the valet parking is effecting 3 spaces. Who is telling them that? The office who circumvented tax payers and residential permit purchasers to allow Albany Med to intimidate people out of parking spots, install signs (poured in cement) in residential areas saying, "Valet Parking Only," and open the car doors of legally parked citizens, without permission, to demand they move? This is not effecting 3 spaces. It's effecting parking all around EACH of the kiosks Albany Med has. It's effecting customers at SEFCU who have complained and the employees at SEFCU who get no response from the city or Albany Med. It's effecting customers and employees at CVS because the valets use that entire lot as well and CVS has had to resort to towing at times. Citizens have nonchalantly struck up conversations with the valets who've revealed they are told to use all of the spots on the street and lots rather than the Albany Med garage (which is a complete contradiction of what the Albany Med leadership promised the neighborhood when they wanted support for their expansion). Residents have paid for permits yet struggle to find spaces. Businesses are aggravated because customers are complaining they can't find parking, and when someone does park legally, the valets open their car doors and demand they move because they "get to use all the street spaces." They do this because they can. There is no accountability. It's benefiting someone, but it's not the residents or other businesses and none of our tax bills will be decreased to account for the inconvenience and hardship it's causing hardworking people who just want to be able to park in legal spots on our streets without being overtaken by cars that should be in the parking garage and valets who confront legally parked citizens. There have even been photos on Seeclickfix of how they double park, dangerously blocking driving lanes and still there is no accountability. It's time for Councilman Conti and others to stand up for this community and insist Albany Med use their own parking facilities as promised and to at least give the appearance of giving a care about the neighborhood in which they prosper.
