4030 Dotson Dr Se Huntsville, AL, 35802, USA - Huntsville

Recently, two appraisers have informed me the condition of Dotson is effecting the appraisal of our houses. I was told the road has not been paved since 1972. it continually sheds pebbles making it difficult to stop on as vehicles slide. The pass-through traffic continues to increase as does the speed at which those vehicles travel. there are more and more children in the neighborhood as well. I understand Dotson is not "Bad" enough yet to break the threshold of the system used to grade roads, but I would argue that it is unsafe as it is and further attempts to "patch" it make it more so as the surface becomes uneven and varied, effecting the gripping application of the tires. The pebbled paving material is worn down to the previous surface in many places. Laying a third surface over that makes it even more uneven and dangerous. The pebbles continually fill the gutters and the storm drains making it hard to even ride bikes on. I have personally witnessed children and adults "wipeout" in those piles of rubble.

Lastly, every road in our subdivision has been repaved in the last 40 years. Some for reasons that had nothing to do with condition, such as sewer work, which I understand. However, there have also been some that have been repaved that were not near as bad as Dotson and that had been repaved more recently already.

I understand there has to be a priority to everything and that decisions have to be made based on some criteria, I also acknowledge that such criteria is somewhat subjective. I consider the government's number one responsibility to be that of protecting its citizens and their assets. At this point not only is the condition of Dotson detrimental to my property values, I would argue that it is dangerous to the well being of those who travel it.

I moved to Dotson in 1999 and called about the condition of the road then and for several years after that, annually. I find it hard to believe that as Dotson has deteriorated, every other road in town has gotten worse to a larger degree, thereby keeping it below the criteria for repaving. I think we have been more than patient and understanding in the application of the City's valuable resources.

At the end of the day, its time for Dotson to be repaved as its not hurting our property values, its endangering our neighbors.

  • 8800 Bridlewood Dr Se Huntsville, AL, 35802, USA - Huntsville
We live at 8802 Bridlewood Drive, next door to 8800 Bridlewood Drive. That house has been a rental for at least 25 years, with questionable tenants over the years. Recent occupancy is by a revolving number of people, no longer long term tenants, but all indication is it is being run like a boarding house, flop house for transients. Suspicious high level of traffic in and out of the house. The house itself has continued to be in disrepair, eyesore. Police activity has become frequent. What are the zoning regulations on boarding houses? What action can be taken against the owner? What action can we homeowners and neighbors take? Has the city taken action with the owner? The situation has become intolerable, and neighbors fearful of criminal activity.

  • S Memorial Pkwy Huntsville, AL, 35803, USA - Huntsville

    Location Description:
The turn into The Dairy neighborhood on South Memorial Parkway, just before the Green Cove Road light if going South.

Our neighborhood desperately needs some kind of light. It is becoming increasingly difficult to turn left onto the Parkway going north from our neighborhood and is getting dangerous. People are not waiting for the person in front of them to complete their turn, pulling next to them in the median and causing a serious hazard due to the obstructed view of oncoming cars and the space left for cars coming the other direction to turn. In addition, the speed with which people travel the Parkway is very high and hard to judge when estimating the time you have to turn. A serious wreck will be caused eventually if nothing is done.

On Governors Drive near 13th Street there is an old very faded sign that was for a Downtown Rescue Mission thrift store.

This sign has excessive weathering and makes the area look bad.

72.11. - Maintenance. All signs shall be maintained in safe condition, free from damage or the results of excessive weathering. Sidewalk growth gives limited visibility to exit From Willow Cove road (north) onto Weatherly road. The photo shows the growth looking East on Weatherly road and you cannot see oncoming traffic when you are exiting Willow Cove road onto Weatherly Road. You have to pull up onto the edge of Weatherly road before you can see East and the west bound traffic. The trees/ brush needs to be removed to give better visibility before someone pulls out into traffic and an accident occurs. Also the trees and brush need to be trimmed/cleared along the sidewalk looking west at the corner of Willow Cove road and Weatherly road.

What have you guys done! Please put the lanes coming out of gate 7 back the way they were. It is a mess now for right turns onto Zierdt and those trying to go straight onward toward James Record. There is not enough traffic turning left at that light to warrant it's own lane all the way to the intersection. What a mess in the afternoons now!!!
