Would you please explain to us why the city does not do anything about the problems involving AT&T, Comcast, WOW and other telecom companies doing business in Huntsville? There are many complaints on Huntsville Connect concerning these companies but the city doesn’t respond to the complaints. With this many cable complaints why is there no such category listed on Hsv Connect?
In 2016 in regards to a complaint put on Huntsville Connect about new poles being put up next to old poles and the lines not being moved over so the old pole could be removed received this response ” Thank you for reporting your service request to Huntsville Utilities. We have recently met with the CATV pole attachment owners and we have all agreed to utilize a third party notification system. This agreement now allows each owner 30 days to transfer their utilities to the new pole, so that we can remove the deteriorated pole. We apologize for the time it has taken to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Thanks for checking in with Huntsville Connect!

In 2017 Huntsville Utilities completed putting out new poles next to defective poles for replacement along Todd Mill Road among others. If they were not defective why would Hsv Utilities install them in the first place? If there is no danger, why are so many joined to each other with either robe or wire to prevent them from falling over? If there is a danger why in three years haven’t they been removed? On Colmar Rd, every pole on the road has a replacement next to it but the lines are still on the old poles.

In 2017 almost a year from getting the 2016 response giving the companies 30 days to move their lines, another complaint was entered on June 28, 2017 asking why the lines had not been moved over to the new poles on Todd Mill Road. A response from Hsv Information Technology Services on June 30, 2017 was “I have contacted Comcast and WOW about this issue. Wrote back asking if they contacted AT&T. Never received a response. From a follow up response on Nov 13, 2017 “Huntsville Utilities cannot service, repair, or relocate equipment not belonging to Huntsville Utilities. We have sent a reminder notice to those who have pole attachment agreements with us to move their lines to the new pole. If you know of service providers in your area, please contact them as well. Thank you, Huntsville Utilities – ML 11/13/2017”. So now residents are expected to get these companies to move their lines when the city can’t? How many times did you contact them about this problem over the past three years?

On June 7, 2020 (three years after the initial complaint) there are 19 poles still with wires which have not been moved over from the old to the new poles including a pole which was put up in 2017 but was broken at the base (photo). A complaint about that broken pole was put in Hsv Connect on April 18, 2020. Today the broken pole is still there as well as lines attached to it. Response City of Huntsville (Huntsville Connect) 4/19/2020 City of Huntsville (Huntsville Connect) assigned this issue to Huntsville Mayor's Office
In addition to the lines not being moved to new poles, also on Todd Mill there are low hanging lines, a couple of poles which have had their support wires removed from the ground and wrapped around the pole and one pole without a new pole beside it with an approximate 3” woodpecker hole in it.

Complaints on cable companies include them not fixing utility boxes, not burying their cable lines, not put their lines in conduit, leaving coils of wire lying on the ground or taped to pole, lines just cut and left hanging from other lines and poles roped to others to name a few and what is the city’s response in a number of these “Your inquiry is being processed, and one of our departments will respond as soon as possible.”, or (Huntsville Connect) assigned this issue to Huntsville Mayor’s Office.

As well as the above problems, Delta Directional, an AT&T contractor and another contractor for I believe WOW damaged sidewalks which they did not fix or improperly fixed and for which the taxpayer had to take care of.

Would the city give a resident three years to fix a problem – of course not, so why are these telecom companies given that much time? If they were going to move their lines, they would have done so by now. The ONLY WAY these companies are going to do what is required of them is for them to be given a substantial financial penalty which increases the longer they delay performing the work AND for the city to enforce the agreement.

The roadside on Torino Drive is just grown up terrible. Also most yards from 10032 to 10040 and beyond are overgrown. My husband cuts the grass across from 10030 with a mower but cannot reach the tall weeks beyond his cut. We used to have mowers come through and take care of these weeds and we would like for that to happen again. Please come back with the mowers and please notify the homeowners again that they have to cut their grass. Thank you.

The intersection of County Line Road and the I-565 / Hwy 20 is extremely hazardous and needs to be re-designed. One major problem is the merging of westbound I-565 traffic to the turning lanes going North on County Line Road. The eastbound I-565 traffic is coming towards the traffic merging from westbound I-565 and oftentimes the turning lanes are already full with no where for the traffic to go. Another major hazardous issue is the traffic from westbound Hwy 20 turning North on County Line Road. The traffic backs up for miles in the right lane while the other lane going straight or turning left (South) on County Line Road has nearly no traffic. I would recommend that 2 turning lanes on westbound Hwy 20 going North on County Line Road. I have seen many a near accident where traffic speeds up to the light and try to merge over at the last second to avoid the long wait.
