Cluster of small potholes on Devonshire ave . This is specially bad when turning from Drexel into Devonshire.

801-899 W Howard Ave Decatur, GA, 30030, USA - Decatur

The 'State Law - Stop for pedestrians within crosswalk' sign in the middle of the crosswalk spanning W Howard Ave at Drexel Ave is missing again.

It's been hit two or three times (at least), likely by larger trucks turning into or out of Drexel Ave. The crosswalk is at the top of a short rise, so it's probable that cars driving east toward Decatur don't see the crosswalk until the last minute, even more so without signage. Without it, crossing is much harder since cars don't feel the need to stop, even for people waiting at the side of the street with young kids or strollers.

Perhaps a more permanent solution could be installed? Or multiple signs (pedestrian signs either side of the street)? Or the base for the sign moved to the middle of the yellow painted median to make it less likely to be hit? Anything to make drivers more aware of the crosswalk.

A crepe myrtle was damaged by a tree that had fallen and removed more more than 2 yrs ago. The president of the home owners assoc has contacted the city several time and each time was told it would be replaced in Spring.
More than 2 yrs have gone by and still no crepe myrtle.
An uncooperative home owner has planted personal plantings, though the board requested remove awaiting the city to replant the crepe myrtle. Because it is city property the board has no authority over it.
It is unfair to the rest of the home owners for the city to allow this and not do what was promised.
It seems that we are aleay told next Spring. It never happens. So another request is made. And again, told next Spring. Several of the home owners have asked why the city won't replace it.
We have worked hard to keep our properties uniform.
Can someone please tell us if and when it will be replaced?
Please don't say next Spring. It seems Spring never comes.

There is no rage like a mother's rage when her children are in danger. The crosswalk signal for crossing East Howard at Atlanta Ave does not work. I sat on the phone with my 6th grader through 3 changes of the signal at 5pm while she attempted to cross the street. I drove from Edgewood to pick her up to get her across the street in the time she was waiting. This is a HUGE deal because when the crossing guards are not there and leaving from aftershool activities, children cannot cross the street. If my child or anyone else gets injured crossing at this light because the pedestrian signal doesn't work, this is your notice that Decatur and DeKalb will pay dearly. If you can't fix it tomorrow, pay your crossing guards overtime to keep them until 5:30 and the middle school students who live on the north side can get across the train tracks.

Drexel Ave & Emerson Ave Decatur, GA, 30030, USA - Decatur

We’re having a resurgence of people blasting through the Drexel/Emerson stop signs with unbelievable recklessness. With school back in session and the large influx of new young families into Lenox Place, it’s going to result in something horrible. Our daughter can’t cross the street in front of our own house because people are running the intersection constantly.

    - The “Stop Ahead” sign leading up to the intersection is completely engulfed in a group of trees. There is no way a driver can see it. It needs to be moved further north.

    - The stop sign facing south on Drexel at Emerson is twisted and bent away from the street. It needs to be replaced. The “Stop Ahead” sign facing south is fine.

    - Rumble strips need to be installed leading up to the stop signs in both directions on Drexel Avenue. Painting stop sign warnings all over the street will be expensive (and probably ignored). Rumble strips get attention, even when a driver is glued to their cell phone. There's an intersection near the beltline that had people constantly running a stop sign. Rumble strips brought the violations to zero. They’re cheap, easy to install, and they work.

    - Repaint the existing white lines at the stop sign with fresh reflective paint

My immediate neighbors and I are sick of this. We’ve all had too many close calls from people (some of whom live in the neighborhood) running the intersection. I see a near miss almost every day. We've been asking for this since the beginning of the year. The cost of these improvements will pale in comparison to an accident, especially if a child is involved. The city needs to fix this NOW before someone gets killed.

  • 217 Melrose Ave Decatur, GA, 30030, USA - Decatur
The actively used alley between Drexel and Melrose has lost much of its gravel over the years and is slowly eroding. It's too much for any one resident to fix. Would be greatly appreciated if the City could provide new gravel. Thanks.
  • 128 Melrose Ave Decatur, GA, 30030, USA - Decatur
This portapot has been blocking the sidewalk for several weeks in front of 128 Melrose Ave where there is construction going on.
  • 268 Adair St Decatur, GA, 30030, USA - Decatur
236 and 238 residents have planted tall plants curbside that restrict and block seeing on coming trafic. Nearly hit twice while backing out of carport.
This is a safty concern and issue that has been brought to the attention of the City of Decatur Officials and continues to go unaddressed.
This is county property. Who is liable if a resident is struck by an automobile while backing out because of restricted view.
Why are issues on Adair St beiing totally ignored?
All we get is. Issue has been reported to Decatur Public Works-S Smith?
Who is S. Smith? And where can residents meet with him/her?
  • 101–111 Adair St Decatur 30030, United States - Decatur
These bushes are obstructing the view of cars turning right on to West Howard. You cannot see cars heading eastbound. And cars heading eastbound cannot see cars on Atlanta ave... i had someone make a turn on red off Atlanta Ave to West Howard, and i alsmost t-boned them! They didnt see me
  • 302 Drexel Ave Decatur, Georgia - Decatur
When driving south on Drexel, approaching Devonshire, the stop sign is obscured by trees until you are right up on it. If you don't realize it is coming, you may not be able to stop until you are in the intersection
  • 627 W Howard Ave Decatur, GA, 30030, USA - Decatur
The placement of the traffic buckets at Adair and Atlanta is causing a hazardous condition.
First, during peak flow, the traffic (coming from downtown ATL) will back up on W Howard to turn right over the tracks, and block oncoming traffic, while oncoming traffic threads through to continue onward. I have seen this more than once so I don't think it is just one or two rogue drivers.
Second, it seems especially hazardous for traffic coming out from Adair to cross the tracks; the buckets don't allow enough room to turn left onto W Howard and then right onto Atlanta.
  • 100-198 Drexel Ave Decatur, GA, 30030, USA - Decatur

There is a daily safety hazard on the corner of Drexel Avenue and W Howard Avenue. A red Nissan Pathfinder (Alabama plate # 2BT7671) is parking right up to the corner and completely blocking the southbound lane of Drexel. Driving south on Drexel, a driver has to get around the Nissan to make any turns. If another car tries to turn onto Drexel from W Howard at the same time, the two vehicles will collide. It’s really dangerous, especially at rush hour. The Nissan is also right up on an existing fire hydrant. It’s not a one-off occurrence. The Nissan owner has decided that its fine to block the only lane you can turn from.

If this is a code violation, a citation might help this person realize that they’re creating a hazard. A permanent solution would be to add a “No Parking Here To Corner” sign. Please do what you can to fix this before there’s a serious accident.
