Notified About

  • 565 Chapel St New Haven, CT 06511 - Wooster Square
The bright sign that's supposed to protect pedestrians from being hit in the crosswalk has been destroyed. It's lying on the sidewalk, the sign park totally snapped off from the base - unable to stand again.
  • 348 Temple St New Haven, CT 06511 - Downtown
Drivers rarely yield to pedestrians on this busy downtown street.
  • 78 Olive St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Wooster Square

A man somehow got into the Smoothie building at around 6 p.m. on June 5 and attempted to break into two apartments. Both times he was interrupted by resident. Police were called to the scene but the man was nowhere to be found.

The suspect is a tall, lanky, light-skinned African-American man in his 40s or 50s. Bald, no facial hair, wearing a white striped dress shirt and carrying a black bag of tools.

  • 87 Union St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - Wooster Square
The new Union St Dog Park will be finished within weeks and safety in the area has become Issue #1. This location will soon to be trafficked by residents from Wooster Square, 360 State, Downtown and beyond but when the sun sets it is VERY DARK. Let's get lights up on the poles across the street so that neighbors are safe and police can identify any dangerous or unlawful activity at night. The sun will set by 5p only 6 weeks after the park opens. Let's get this done!
  • Mugging Archived
71 Court St New Haven, CT 06511 - Wooster Square
Someone was mugged at around 11:45 pm by two men, one on a bike and one on foot. We called police and it took 1/2 hour to respond. After they mugged someone, they recircled Olive. This street is too dark! We need more lights and more police presence in Wooster Square.
  • 777 Chapel St New Haven, CT 06510 - 770 Chapel Big
Downtown New Haven badly needs a fresh produce market. Market analysis backs up this claim. The developers of the Shartenberg tower have had trouble recruiting the likes of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods to occupy retail space in the tower. Citizens need to get involved in persuading out-of-town retailers to consider this space (i.e., Fairway in NYC). Interested grocers should contact the City of New Haven Economic Development Office.

  • 936 Chapel Street New Haven, CT - Town_Green
AT&T is opening a retail store at 936 Chapel St., where the old tattoo shop used to be. This is probably the ugliest storefront in all of downtown -- completely covered in black styrofoam. The building owner has not been motivated to improve their building, but perhaps AT&T can be persuaded that they owe it to New Haven to make their business look halfway decent. I've already written their "corporate citizenship" PR representative, requesting that they at least remove the dryvit. I would also like to see that their signage, when installed, is of appropriate quality and scale. (The tattoo shop had a plastic sign about five feet tall.) Is there any local approvals process that has guidelines for signage?
  • New Haven CT - Downtown
The city of New Haven was given almost 4 million dollars to sychronize traffic signals in New Haven. After a light turns green the next one turns red block after block. The article I read stated that if you did 25 miles an hour or less you would get more than 1 block.
  • Chapel St & Depalma New Haven, CT - Wooster Square
There is rampant speeding along Chapel St between Olive and Franklin. For the second time in the past week my wife and I have nearly been run over in the crosswalk exiting Wooster Square to DePalma. There needs to be greater traffic-calming measures along these blocks which is a heavily trafficked residential neighborhood - the one crosswalk at DePalma and Chapel is not enough. Police need to enforce speeding along this route (I saw a police car ignore an SUV run the light at Chestnut and Chapel recently). This is unacceptable. Residents of this area should not feel frightened to cross Chapel Street. There should be either more crosswalks with pedestrian signs, speed bumps, and greater enforcement.
  • 746 Chapel St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - 770 Chapel Big
Bus shelter needed at 746 Chapel stop.
  • Union Street Dog Park New Haven, Connecticut - Wooster Square
The accumulation of trash beyond the fence at Union Street Dog park is a health hazard. We need to city to step up and take charge of duking it out among the conflicting public entities to get it cleaned up. Now that summer is here, this just encourages people to see this as a place to camp, drink, do drugs, and throw more trash. This is one of the few things our volunteers are not equipped to do, so please stop passing the buck and take the lead on this. We have been asking for 3 years.

  • The intersection at Court and Olive continues to be dangerous despite efforts by Traffic and Parking to resolve them. Every day, drivers ignore walkway almost running pedestrians over. City installed new "no parking" signs but drivers disregard them. This corner is dangerous. There was an accident there just last night.
