  • 57–69 Granite St Malden MA 02148, United States - Malden Ward 6
Something needs to be done about the amount of dogs running in the ball field at trafton park now. They are unleashed, fighting with each other and the owners are treating the ball field as a new dog park. It’s really damaging an already damaged field and preventing a lot of kids from going into the field to throw a ball around.

Just FYI, the motorcycle has been especially active in our area this morning, and the driver has increased the level of noise.

The Malden Recreation Department is offering a baseball clinic for BOYS ONLY, ages five through eight. This is illegal. In 1974, a court ruling forced Little League to allow girls to play baseball. In 2009, the NCAA determined that baseball and softball were NOT the same sport (they aren't), preventing its member schools from prohibiting girls from playing baseball by offering softball as an alternative. Rulings under Title IX now require schools to allow girls to play baseball, even if a school offers softball. So in 2020, by preventing girls from participating in a baseball clinic, even though it offers a softball clinic for girls, the city is committing illegal gender discrimination. It's not even a close call.

Even if it wasn't illegal, it's simply wrong. There is no reason to be segregating children this young on the basis of gender. For as long as anyone can remember, girls have played youth baseball in this city's Little League/youth baseball programs. Many have represented Malden in district all-star/post-season competition. They continue to participate. A few years back, a 13 year old girl with a 70 mph fastball pitched a complete game shutout in the Little League World Series. Nationwide, more and more girls are sticking with baseball, not switching to softball, and demanding their right to continue to participate in baseball at the high school level, and beyond.

That may be playing a role here. The city runs a girls softball program. The city does NOT run the co-ed baseball program. So is the city trying to funnel young girls away from one program and into another it runs by illegally restricting their opportunity to participate in baseball at a young age? That's not what youth sports should be about.

These clinics are a great opportunity for kids. Those volunteering deserve tremendous credit for stepping up to help. But the city needs to stop discriminating and denying the opportunity to participate equally in baseball to girls. Before someone at the city closes or archives this without seeing that the issue is corrected, they might want to refer this to the city's attorney to allow her to weigh in. That could probably save the city a lot of trouble down the road.

Also, to any parents of girls out there who would prefer their daughter attend the baseball camp: your child may. The city may not bar your daughter from participating.

I've submitted this picture before weeks ago, nothing has changed! At that time Ernie from parking told me the man living in this car has fallen on hard times and he would reach out to the director of the senior center in Malden to see if she could help. He's still living like this, along the public bike path, with families going past everyday, and he's urinating and defecating along the path. I've seen an industrial cleaning co. hose down the area so the city knows it's an issue. What is being done, what can be done for him? Nobody should have to live like this. Ty.

26 Tufts St Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 1
The property at 26 Tufts St is being rented as an airbnb. There are numerous people coming and going from this home. In addition, numerous cars on the street have out of state license plates that are parked on the street. One car in particular from Colorado has been here for over 6 months. These cars are parked taking up two spots and cars of owners of homes on the street are unable to park. This is a small street and parking is difficult in the best of circumstances.

Welcome to Andreas Tsitos' Malden. This propety (166 Mountain Ave) is owned by Tsitos' company United Properties which in my opinion is ruining the quality of life in Malden.

The fence on this property runs to the corner next to a stop sign and the height of the fence prevents cars stopped at the stop sign from seeing if there are any cars coming up the street, there have been several close calls of head on accidents because the fence is too high and too close to the corner to safely proceed. Please address this safety issue.
  • Dairy Delight 766 Main St, Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 4
It is MA law to wear masks at establishments and at counters. Dairy Delight has served multiple people who are not wearing masks, making other patrons feel uncomfortable. I mentioned something to one of the girls and she simply shrugged. I don’t care about her opinion regarding masks because this is a LAW and should be closely followed. I witnessed it happen twice and now will no longer go there. Masks are not optional and should not be treated as such.

79 Leonard St Malden, MA 02148, USA - Malden Ward 4

This is an ADA violation. The city says the park is still open. However, it has been made inaccessible for many disabled individuals. The gap to the right of the gate is insufficiently wide. A direct path through is obstructed by a pole just a few feet away. The incline is significant. Access to disabled parking, at the top of the very steep hill is cut off. There is no disabled parking on the street. But even with that, the park would remain inaccessible for the above reasons.

The motivation for doing this appears to be a small group of highly vocal residents who seem to think this park is their personal backyard, and that they have the right to exclude people from this PUBLIC park. While some damage has occurred at the park, this park is not unique in that regard. We deal with that at all of our city parks. That damage is occurring overnight, not during daylight hours. The closure of the gate during daylight hours, which still allows able-bodied people to enter the park, does nothing to address this. It only punishes law abiding people (including taxpayers, who have a right to access the park). While some neighbors no doubt have good intentions, others are clearly trying to exclude people unfairly. Note the repeated nonsensical claims by some on SCF over the past few months that visitors to the park were "spreading Covid." That dog whistle is loud and clear. The city claims that visitors to the park may park on the street. However, the street is resident permit parking only. So the parking situation makes it difficult, if not impossible, for residents who do not live within walking distance to use the park. This is by design.

The neighborhood surrounding the park is more affluent and less diverse than the city as a whole. That's a fact. The effect of this policy is to make it significantly more difficult for people from other neighborhoods to use the park. So even if discrimination isn't the intent, it IS the effect, whether it is on the basis of socio-economic status, race/ethnicity, or disability.

Stop discriminating. Unlock the gate during daylight hours. This city, and this park, belongs to ALL of us.

  • 131 Summer St Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 3
There is an extremely bright strobe light facing outward to the street. Located on the secodn floor. The past three nights it has woken me up because its directed toward my apartment building located at 134 summer st. My annoyance aside, I am concerned it may be distracting to drivers coming down summer st and could cause a potential crash. Again to clarify the light is sitting in the second floor window with the strobe light pointed out onto the street. It is incredibly bright and lights up my bedroom like Times Square even with my shades and curtains drawn.
  • Hancock St & Cross St Malden, MA, 02148, USA - Malden Ward 1
I noticed the police closed a new noise/speeding motorcycle complaint made at 4:45 by saying the culprit had been told to stop it at 2:30. It appears he was not issued a ticket. I think complaints posted after 2:30 should be considered new complaints and not duplicates of an old one. It is obvious the cyclist has no intention of ceasing his behavior and is getting personally aggressive, since the 4:45 post said the cyclist had just sped by giving the residents the finger. (BTW, I checked my records and my first complaint about this problem was made three years ago, and I reported it several times in each of the subsequent years. No action was ever taken, I thought because no one could ID the man, but we now know who he is, so he should be pursued until he stops.) Please take this problem seriously and don't shove it aside.
