Notified About

  • 433-449 Broadway Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - Mid-Cambridge
an inordinately large group of people on the lawn who had set up corn hole. None had masks and they far from distant. I assume they are students coming in for the new year. It would be a shame if all the success in public health measures put in place are undone by groups like this.

I don’t get it. It’s the same spot as the ones happened between 10pm and 11pm. Called the CPD and being told officers are on their way. How could it possible that it’s still happening now. Same spot over the past three weeks that I can tell. Please do the job!

For at least the past few weeks there has been a continuous, high-pitched whining noise that persists for several hours at a time. Tonight it started at about 6 pm, and it's still happening at 10 pm. We can hear it clearly from inside our home, as can our neighbors. We've tried following the noise in the past, and it seems to be coming from the area around Spaulding Hospital.

A while ago it was decided to make part of Cambridge st one-way, and with very little parking, at significant negative impact to local traffic, so that local businesses may enjoy greater customer flow safely by having outdoor seating. I have accepted this imposition without protest due to the solid rationale.

However, today, a good weather weekday during lunch time, there is still no seating at any local establishment, they are all take-out only, and it seems we made all these changes only to create a reserved parking of sorts...

Given that local businesses are not using the space as intended, the public's full traffic usage of Cambridge street should be restored.

This house at 316 Pearl St has been abandoned for at least 20 years. It is looking very unsafe. Two things have recently been happening here:
1 - people are dumping their trash and discarded furniture in front
2 - young people possibly teenagers (15 - 20) are creeping around the property and trying to find a way in. Trying to open windows and doors. In fact two young females were spotted by at least two neighbors earlier this evening 9/28/20 trying to do just this.
This entire situation is becoming more and more dangerous!!!
The property has not had taxes paid on it since it was abandoned, so City of Cambridge how long before you do something about this?
  • 16 Trowbridge St Cambridge, MA, 02138, USA - Mid-Cambridge
There are delivery vehicles, moving trucks, uber/lyft cars and residents parking on the bike lane in Trowbridge Street on a daily basis forcing bikes to enter dangerous traffic. How/where can we submit a request to dedicate 2 or 4 parking spots in Trowbridge street permanently as loading zone? I think this is the only way to solves this dangerous situation in the long run.

As you probably know, mid-Cambridge has become infested by rats over the past few months. My neighbors and I are trying to figure out best practices and environmentally safe strategies to reduce the number of rats that are running across our patios, setting up homes in our yards, eating holes through our trash bins, etc.

For example, two doors down from me, there is an old tree stump in my neighbor's yard with at least six large holes (4-5 inches in diameter) dug in the dirt next to the stump. I have seen multiple rats go in and out of these holes and through my yard, eating all the plants. My neighbors acknowledge that rats are indeed living on their property, but they have declined to address the issue.

I have called an exterminator to consult about the problem, but I don't even know if it is legal for me to do anything to the rats, and I certainly don't want to harm any pets or other animals in the neighborhood. However, because rats reproduce every three weeks, I don't think the right answer is to do absolutely nothing. Eventually, the rats will make their way indoors.

Can you please let know the city's recommendations for handling this sort of situation? I would really appreciate it.

It's currently super dangerous to bike through Inman Square. There's a bunch of construction vehicles parked in the new contraflow bike lane, and the traffic cones currently shunt bikes directly into oncoming traffic. The width of the vehicles is such that cars are straddling the travel lane and the bike lane, and there is no BMUFL signage. I tried asking the officer on detail if he could reach out to TPT and/or put up some signs, but he didn't seem to understand what the problem was. There is currently no signage indicating the contraflow lane is closed.

So is the city going to do anything here to stop this besides just a single cop car cruising by and then leaving? This has been going on from noon today, it’s now 2am and the response has been pathetic. Now you have small fires happening around the area and people are just supposed to be ok with it? CPD and the housing authority need to fix this ASAP before tensions build more and more in this neighborhood. Just creating an angry and annoyed community environment.

My partner and I were biking toward Central Square when a driver came behind us honking and eventually screaming that we need to be in the bike lane. When I pointed out that the bike lane was for traveling in the opposite direction, she screamed expletives and drove around us THROUGH the bike lane herself to pass us, running the stop sign.

We weren't breaking any rules and we were moving in the direction of the travel lane. I am so sick of being threatened on these residential streets. Can we please have a safe route between Inman and Central Squares? Can we please have infrastructure that isn't paint on a road? Can we please regularly cite drivers who endanger people on bicycles? I don't want to become the next white bike in Cambridge. I'm sick of feeling like I might instigate someone to hurt or kill me just for existing in their way. Isn't Cambridge supposed to be different?

The driver was a woman with a green SUV and New Hampshire plates, but it doesn't matter because this isn't the first or the last time.
