Thank you for your report. Please note the Town of Braintree is aware of the condition of the sidewalk and its general state of disrepair, which is why it is currently closed and inaccessible to all residents. A project to reconstruct Allen Street, its sidewalk, and the failing portions of the retaining wall to the south is currently at approximately 90% design. While the project has been cost prohibitive to date, due mostly to the reconstruction of the structural retaining wall that is integral to the street, we are currently looking at possible ways, including grants, to fund this project.

This street has been a mess for as long as I’ve lived in Braintree. (30 yrs) The sidewalk is inaccessible even if it was useable because of the cars parked on it and the road surface has been one of the consistent worst in the city for uneven surface and potholes. Have lost 2 driver side mirrors because of the narrow lanes with the parking sometimes on both sides of the street. Condition of the entire stretch of roadway has been deplorable and shame on Braintree for ignoring it for decades. Braintree has been aware of the problems but hasn’t acted towards repairing ever.
