Description

The parking lot is overly congested, yield and stop signs are not present at the appropriate “intersections”, there are more blind spots than I can even count because of placement of the parking spots and where each intersection is located, a person pretty much has to be almost in the middle of the intersection to even see if there are cars coming and then at that point, someone is slamming on their breaks to avoid collision. And although I am very cautious while driving in this parking lot, most others are not and dart in and out of “lanes” without any hesitation at high speeds even at the few marked areas in the lot that say “stop” painted on the pavement, which are hardly effective because most patrons aren’t familiar with the lot do not even see them which I believe these were put in due to previous complaints of the lot.

Nonetheless the parking lot “intersection” where my accident occurred was not marked in either direction with the painted “stop” recommendation. I turned into the Inovalon parking lot off of E. Michigan AVE into the main lane coming up towards Inovalon at a very low speed, yielded at all of the lot intersections, as I crossed over the intersection/lane coming up from the Secretary of State office area, a young lady was driving up that lane and didn’t hesitate to yield and crashed into my back passenger door. I am a very cautious driver and as a matter of fact, this was my very first accident in 20 years of driving. And upon my own research, according to the Charter Township of Lansing, Ingham County Township Board of Trustees for the Ordinance Number 39.9, 44-3 regulation (pertaining to parking lot safety) states: “To protect the health, safety and welfare of township residents and guests by, but not limited to , removing obstructions and distractions from the public’s right of way minimizing conflict points”. Obstructions in this case would be the cars parked in a way that is obstructing my view from oncoming traffic in many places within the lot. I even found an article online that mentioned, when the skate park was installed, concerns of parking for store patrons arose, Parks Director, Jemerson said, “we will double the parking, the park will be able to handle the numbers”.

I sustained injuries and found out I was pregnant shortly after the accident, due to the stress of everything that had happened (all caused by the car accident that I was NOT found negligent in by my auto insurance carrier), I would be 28 weeks today but sadly, I am not. Several complaints have been made to the property owners and their insurance company but they refuse to make any changes.. Please have the lot evaluated for the safety of others, there are accidents constantly during business hours.
Thank you,
