City records show here is a current 2016 zoning and building permit for "Repair/replace front entry floor decking, rails, posts, soffit and fascia." at this property.
When construction vehicles/work trailers are working under a permit for a job that would reasonably require the need to be next to the work site we do not issue yard parking tickets.
In this instance, the City has properly represented their parking rule for contractors parking on lawns. However, the City often chooses to ignore their own rules as a form of harassment to contractors that they, for lack of better language, simply do not like. Trades workers often have heavy equipment and need space to perform their work. The lawns provide a good *temporary* solution. It is appalling to me to think that a property owner that is repairing or improving their property is penalized with a municipal ticket issued unjustly (albeit legal in the ordinance) by entering private property. Does it make sense to you that a city worker can come onto privately owned property and place a ticket on a privately owned vehicle? According to the ordinance, temporarily parking on the lawn may be construed as a zoning violation for "expansion of the parking area without a zoning permit" but that would need to be brought in front of the DRB. By the time that happens, the vehicle has driven away. Therefore, I have gotten in the habit to REMOVE THE LICENSE PLATES when working on private properties. The proof of pudding is in the eating...if the city is not allow to tow you from private property then they should also NOT be allowed to give you a ticket!
