What is the status of the bridge repairs and what it the schedule for bridge replacement and added lighting? It is a real shame to see neglect of public assets like this in the City of St. Charles. Why did it take a citizen to report a deteriorating bridge under Public Works and Parks and Recreation oversight?

A week has gone by with no status update nor action plan from St. Charles Public Works and Parks and Rec. Dept. There needs to be more responsiveness and a sense of urgency from City staff.

Our Public Works Department has made some interim repairs to nails and boards to remove immediate trip hazards. During the week of September 18-22 more comprehensive repairs are scheduled. Unfortunately, replacement of the bridge is not planned for another few years due to budgetary constraints.

Are there any plans for some kind of lighting? Getting the boards nailed back down will help with falling but that is such a heavily trafficked area during events day & night. I feel like not having any lighting there is very dangerous. I know crime is pretty low here but that is a prime spot to be mugged with no lighting.

Unfortunately, additional lighting is not in the budget at this time. We haven't engineered or designed the plans for the bridge (when it is replaced) but that would certainly be a good addition to future plans. We will include this request when it moves forward into the design phase. Thank you for the suggestion and improving our City parks!

Has the City considered soliciting for a corporate or private memorial sponsor to fund the complete bridge replacement (including lighting enhancements) with naming rights? Could Lindenwood University, SSM, Ameristar, or another company or foundation potentially donate?

Glad you mentioned lights. Could you imagine well lit passages in the park and along the katy trail would be especially nice.
