  • 88-22 Parsons Blvd my Apt. Basement Jamaica, NY 11432 (37 apts bldg) - Ridgewood
    We need and ask you to do pronto solution to our problem in our building 37 apts, families with eldery people and kids, No heat and hot water after 11PM until 6AM, every single night 7 days a week.
    Please force the landlord to give us heat/hot water every night after 11pm, thank you for you cooperation.

    Lots of garbage can be seen on the rail in the subway. The phenomenon exists not only in Penn Station, but also in many other subways. Sometimes you can even find rats running through... I think we need a clearner underground and it's important for our health.

    Heat is inconsistent in 1st and 2nd floors, Landlord keeps lowering the heat and the rooms are freezing. 2nd floor has a kid and the kid is getting sick

    Contractors with work permits are gutting out old lead-painted apartments without using safe work practices generating huge clouds of lead dust in the alleyway right near my windows in the building next door at 203 West 107th Street. I have an 11-month-old son. I fear that there is so much lead dust that, even though we didn't open the windows during the fury, the air is extremely toxic in this alleyway and in this first floor apartment. We are staying here temporarily while our ninth floor apartment in the same building is being abated for lead (to protect my son). I believe our temporary refuge is, actually, much more dangerous as a result of this toxic renovation. According to one source, the Landlord of 205 W 107th did not even wet down the debris to control the spread of dust because then it would have been heavier and would have cost more to haul away. When I arrived home from work on Thursday, April 4, at about 4PM, I witnessed a worker loading unwrapped large debris onto a truck in front of my building and banging an old baseboard on the street. The Department of Environmental Protection responded to my 311 complaint, but by the time they arrived on April 9, the most dangerous activity was finished (for now). They reported that no violation was given and they do not appear to have investigated what had gone on the week of April 1 or to have bothered to view the alleyway I have photographed (see comments below). In Bloomberg's New York, the Department of Health and HPD are just as inept, complacent, and complicit in looking the other way.

    I have reported no heat and hot water over 20 times through 311 and HPD. I am asking immediate assistance in aiding me in the right direction to get the landlord to comply with the law

    Little or insuficient heat provided in building 42-16 80st Elmhurst. They only provide heat when weather is in the 30's. Super lives in the building but he is careless of tenants, he lives on the first floor which is the warmest floors of all. Unfortunatelly floors 4 and up are very very cold because no heat is provided.
    When confronted managment about the issue they said it was the first time they heard that type of complaint, but when I went to the 311.website to make a complaint and check then list of complaints against the building they have 15 complaints about the same issue.
    The building is managed under greenhill managment llc but I am sure the owner lives in the buiding.
    Right now is 64 degrees in my apartment and I just don't know what to do.

    This area has white lines painted showing where the bus stops end and it's ok to park. That's great, but as you drive up to an empty space, 80% of the time it's a fire hydrant. There's no way to tell whether it's a parking spot or a fire hydrant until you've driven past the empty space far enough to see the hydrant, holding up traffic for no reason.

    Instead, when the lines are painted, they should be changed in the 15+15 feet exclusion zone around a fire hydrant, so drivers can clearly see whether it's a parking spot or a fire hydrant before we get to it. Maybe change the line to red in that region, or use hash marks, etc. (I am talking about the line on the street, not the curb. The curb paint is useless when it is not visible behind parked cars.)

    This would also help us know if we're legally far enough away from the hydrant or not, fitting in more cars. This area is hard enough to find parking as it is. Cars won't have to slow down as much, reducing pollution from their exhaust and noise pollution from jerks honking behind them.

    (Ideally, this would be done everywhere that parking is scarce, but we'll start here because there are already lines being painted in this area.)

    I live in this bldg and there are about 70 tenants wich is being used as a DAYS HOTEL. This is a SRO and since 1995 has been transformed into an illegal hotel. There are about 300 hundred illegal hotel rooms being rented on a daily basis. There are several open violations being 4 to stop illegal occupancy, due to zoning and CoO which is disregarded by the landlord. There are violations for lack of appropriate exits in case of fire which is also disregarded by landlord. Landlord attempted to get a Certificate of No-Harassment in 2007 and it was denied, but since then they continue a series of illegalities, which include getting permits submitting fraudulent info, such as denying it's a SRO, saying they are renovating residential units when as a matter of fact they are converting illegally into hotel rooms. There are 2 STOP Work Orders in the bldg, but they continue to convert rooms. I have called DOB for a current conversion of room 210 and amazingly they did not see the renovation happening. They revoked most permits they had but too late because they had finished a long time ago and are renting for almost a year to transient guests. No one is helping us, including Brewer, which discouraged me to fight them, Rosenthal's Office helped me a little but keep trying to convince me the hotel is legal despite the 4 violations from the Mayor's Office. They keep pushing tenants down and treat us like garbage, they have bee successful with 300 of them already. HPD denied the certificate of no-harassment but left us alone in the cold to deal with a retaliation which included putting a bouncer in front of my apartment who claimed to be armed with a knife. Police thought that is okay to have the only security in front of my unit. They have a parking load and unload for a hotel although it's illegal. I have called the new elected official for our street and despite 3 phone calls I have not received any response. This city i allowing this landlord to disobey every tenant protection laws in this city and despite of cracking down in other hotels, they are doing too little or nothing to really stop them.

    No heat today even though it is 10 degrees out. Heat is always off at night, so you have to run electric heaters. Landlord owns restaurant under apartments and it is always well maintained and warm while the tenants suffer.

    I have reported to the landlord many times and nothing has been fixed. The hot water is gone every morning and most evenings. If I do get hot water it is only warm not hot. I also have major leaks in my roof which have never even been atempted to be fixed.

    For the past couple of years, there is a flea market taking place in the driveway of 1620 Ditmas Ave (on E. 17 Street). This is a residential street, zoned R1, in a landmarked district. Business is not supposed to be conducted, especially outside the house. The people who run it don't even live in the house. This takes place EVERY Sunday when the weather is good. You know it's Sunday if they're out there selling.
    Something must be done. It is illegal and unsightly.
